Interview
I did an interview with my teacher who taught me English last year. I asked her first to
introduce herself, she answered me by saying My name is Alia Mohammed, I am from
Egypt, I am 52 years old, I am an English teacher in AL Salam school, I been teaching
now for about 26 years, I taught 20 years in Abu Dhabi and 6 years in Dubai and this is
my 6 years in AL Salam school. Then I asked her why did she select teaching as a
career? She said that she selected that career since she was 13 or 14 years old because
she thought from that year that giving is much better than taking, and if anybody has
any information about anything, its nice to give it to the people. and she was a student
in American school so she learned many things which she hoped at that age to give it to
the students. Her answer was interesting so I asked her if any teacher encourage her to
become a teacher and I expect that she will say yes but, she laughed and said No body
encourage me, all my teachers and sisters said: dont do that it will make you old
before you reach the forties, its hard to deal with the students not all of them are good,
you will regret for this choice, but I insisted that its never mind and I will do it. The
forth question was if she is happy and comfortable to teach in AL Salam school and she
said that she is happy but, sometimes she find it difficult because she deal with some
irresponsible girls. Her answer push me to ask her to describe the students in AL Salam
school and she said that some students they dont like to study, they dont want to
come to the school, when she give them any tasks to do it they look to her as they want
to kill her, they are always cross, they dont want to participate in the class also they
are the same in other classes. But also there are some students who want to learn and
they participate with her and respect her class. Then my question was to know who is a
successful teacher in her opinion? And she said A Successful teacher who always
respect her students and try to get them and push them to succeed. Then how she
encourage her students to learn? She said that she always give them a positive
feedback, and she try change her teaching style and get out of the Book. Then my
question was if she think that homework is good for students? actually, she think that
Home work is a great way for teachers to keep their students sharp. homework can be
used as an important tool in continuing the education of a student when they leave the
classroom, it keeps their minds sharp and keeps them focused when they are not with
the teacher. later I ask her about how she communicate with the parents if she want to
talk to them about their children? She said Of course, when there is open day and we
invite the parents to speak with them about their kids, we always give to them some
advice that they need because some parents they dont know how to communicate with
their kids so, we tell them how to do it and how to be successful in order to make the
improve the coming years.my last question was What you will do if she got 100 Dollar,
well she spend it for poor people who dont have money to go to school? And she
answered me with confident by saying Sure, I will help the poor people because they
have the right to learn as others.
I think her job has a lot of responsibilities but it is a nice job because it teaches you
how to communicate with the students and how to get them, its like a challenge.
