Purpose of the Course In the State of Maine, all public school teachers with a professional
certification must earn a total of 90 professional development hours every 5
years. In my school district, teachers can earn these hours through a variety
of activities, but must use a particular computer program and follow very
specific steps to receive the recertification hours for these activities. Though
earning these hours is a professional requirement, many teachers are
confused about the process and leave it until the very last minute because
they are already so busy in the classroom. Creating a course to make it easy
for the teachers to understand the process of earning these recertification
hours seems necessary.
Audience Description
The target audience for this course is all teachers with a professional
certification in my school district.
Major Course

Instructional Delivery The course will be designed so that the content can be delivered either facemethod for Course

Instructional Strategy I plan to use an online module with several slides that describe the
for RLO
differences between the types of certification, the state requirements for
receiving/renewing a professional teaching certification, the professional
development activities commonly used to meet these state requirements
along with the hours awarded for each activity, and the correct forms
required for each activity (for both before and after the activity is
completed). I plan to use tutorials, open-ended learning environments, and
problem-based learning.

Im honestly not sure how long this will take to develop because Im very
unfamiliar with developing lessons on an online module. If I were to use
PowerPoint, it would probably take me several days to included everything
and get it the way I want it to be.
