TITLE OF THE PAPER: COMPARING WOMEN IN WEST AFRICA AND
INDIA: THE POLITICAL MIRROR
- Tejaswini Ranjan1 This is a descriptive as well as a comparative study. The paper focuses upon that population in West Africa which follow the Islamic conducts; socially and politically. These are the regions where the social and political status of the women has been the most disputed one. In the political arena, women have secluded to participate in the social front. When we look upon the Indian society, we can sense the transition of the orthodox traditionalism and the customs which used to bound the women to an unjust extent. This paper makes a comparative study of political study of the political rights of women in the two regions; past, present and the expected future. Also, since political rights are closely related to political rights; this work of research also highlights the reasons why women in the West African region are constrained by discriminatory attitudes of their society. The paper also takes in account the Political History, Systems, Laws and the Regional Trends.
