Group Assignment One (TRANSCEND)
Transcend will put into effect a transformational leadership system. We feel it is important that individuals empower and
motivate each other towards higher levels of job satisfaction. Taking the time to do team building exercises and training our
employees to raise the levels of motivation and morality will be very important in our line of work. Behavior theory focuses on the
concept that leaders should understand what the group wants as its vision, then encourages them to see that vision through. As leaders
we will need to really get to know our employees so we can understand their passion and purpose to make sure it is put to good use.
This is a perfect fit with our transformational leadership system because once we know our employees we will be able to guide
incoming resident. They can empower them and show them how to cope with their fears and their healing. We want them to be the
best versions of themselves so they can also empower each other and work as a team towards their goal(s).

The integrated leadership and character model will be very important to our interview process here at Transcend. We want to make
sure we hire people who have great personal character, conceptual skills, technical skills, and human relations skills. Working with

domestic violence victims it is important to be trustworthy, have respect, and be responsible and as fair as possible. Volunteers also
need to be caring and have a sense of citizenship to make residents feel safe. Human relation skills will be valuable when trying to get
the residents to open up and talk about their experiences with abuse. Conceptual skills like decision making and problem solving will
be used often, and employees should have strength in these areas as well. Technical skills will not be important for everyone to have,
but for program development, marketing, budgeting, technology and managing areas in general it will be very important.

Board of Directors for TRANSCEND

At Transcend we will be working with people from all walks of life. Our main goal is to serve them with help dealing with their
turbulent time. Domestic violence is what we are targeting to eliminate in the LGBT community in the Central Florida community.
Our board of directors is very diverse starting with our Chair Person-Michael Mormon, he works for the department of health and has
extensive experience in educating people about HIV/AIDS. The chair person is responsible for organizing the meetings for all
members of the board and has the power to appoint committee chairs and also is the check signer. For our Vice-Chair for the
organization we have Michael Aponte, he has experience in a manager at the Stafford House and uses that knowledge to help the
organization by overseeing volunteers and managing them. The vice-chair persons will be the assumed chair person in their
absences/resignation. Next we have the Secretary for Transcend, which is Baily Jo Frazer, she has experience in being a victim of
domestic violence and is a great asset to the board because of her experience in she is able to connect with victims on a deeper level.
Finally, we have Sean Frank as our Treasurer, his experience in of owning a business it makes him a great board member because of
his experience in handling day to day tasks at managing a large team. The idea for our board is every two years there will be an
election for the positions that we have, that way we can keep each board member included and fresh with ideas as to the future of
Transcend. In total we have nine board members that are experienced in numerous things that help with giving advice and guidance to
the organization, they are also our best donors. Each board member will serve in a position as stated in our bylaws. With each turn the

board members will have their own turn at introducing ideas and making sure that we are running smoothly at Transcend. While
waiting to take a leadership role there will be subcommittees on our board such as our health committee, financial committee and our
educational committee. Each committee is responsible for their own programs and seeing them through. The health committee will be
responsible for making sure all residents are tested and practicing safe sex. The financial committee will be responsible in working
with our grant writer and fundraisers to seek out potential donors/sponsorships and any grants that help out mission. The Educational
committee will develop classes that can help our residents in job search, healing processes, and life skills. After each board member is
cycled through a leadership position they switch between subcommittees and we can continue to bring the best services to our clients.
All the while making sure that they are developing into a whole person again and feel as normal as possible.

Volunteer Management
We want to make sure our residents are progressing well so we will try to recruit from within mostly. We will
welcome all and any volunteer but there will be training courses to take for some of the more rigorous

volunteering. Some of the volunteer positions that will be need will include: Front desk receptionist, Testers
for the HIV/STD program, Resident advisors, and lastly maintenance. Most of the upkeep of the buildings
will be done by our residents themselves such as the gardening, simple handyman issues, and basic
maintenance. As far as how we will be implementing the use of our volunteers and how the duration of
their stay is to help them get back to a place of normalcy as possible. Here is a chart explaining how we
will be doing that.
