The goal of this course I took was to teach the students about U.S.
History. At the time my teacher was Mr. Fordon. He was the very
first history teacher I had in the Arts Academy but unfortunately he
left during my sophomore year. He was a very good teacher to have
as a freshmen because he welcomed us into his classroom and
academy with no hesitation. One of the sections that we were
learning in this class was the Holocaust. Mr. For don was a very
hands on teacher and wanted to the students to be engaged with
the lesson. The assignment I am choosing to write about is
something that opened my mind and helped me connect and realize
how the Holocaust truly affected individuals. My teacher had the
classroom split up into two sections, one section was for people who
were living and the other was for people who had died. He has us
line up in a straight line in the middle of the classroom and have
each of us a card that determined our fate during the Holocaust.
Students died from illness, famine, and other conditions that were
in humane. The goal of this assignment was to teach the students
what the Holocaust was truly like and how much it affected the
daily lives of individuals.
What I needed to know for this project was the history and
background information on the Holocaust. I needed to know what
daily lives consisted of for humans back then. I was put on the side
that had people who died, I got sick and my family was too poor to
provide the correct care for me to survive. I learned that during the
Holocaust many people didn't have control of their lives due to the
Holocaust controlling their own fate.
In order to complete the assignment we all got separated into
groups of who had survived and who hadn't and had a big class
discussion about the cause and effects from the Holocaust time
period. Later in the period we later learned the fates of people who
had survived the first round with nearly half of them losing their
lives. Since I know now the struggles that people were put through
during tough time I can learn about how they overcame their
obstacles which could help me later on in life. The knowledge from
this event helps me realize that I am lucky to be where I am now
and that I can get through any obstacle thrown my way.
The new subject matter that I encountered were new disease I
didn't know killed people back the next. A skill for me that was
improved with this assignment was to connect more with the lives
of people in the text books I read. I learned to not just read over
the words and take for granted what I have today.

What went well during the project was the concentration that my
teacher was able to get from his students. This assignment was to
be taken seriously and the academy students respected it. What
could have gone better was we could have gone a little more in

knowledge and
experience gained).
What went well? Why?
What could have gone
better? How could you
have improved it?
How have you
demonstrated growth
in your knowledge and
skills as a student & in
this subject matter as
a result of working
through the

depth about each person but I learned a lot about the impact my
individual had on the people around her. I wouldn't have improved
anything about the assignment other than maybe trying to make an
art piece that the student thinks reflects their identity they were
given.
I have demonstrated growth in my knowledges as a student
because I gained information about the Holocaust not only from
the book but from a personal experience and a much minor scale.
Working on this assignment for one day had touched me
emotionally and has made me stronger because I want to make
sure that my purpose in the world today is impactful.
This assignment did not impact so much on the artistic side
because there was not art behind it. It did impact me as an Art
Academy student in the fact that I am a little different from any
other student at Clayton Valley. Being an Art Academy student has
categorized me into a student that I am proud to be. I look at thing
differently now suck has when I'm reading from a textbook or a
novel, I imagine myself in the person or character's situation and
work my way through their life and obstacle. I use my knowledge
about analyzing a situation, which I improved on with this
Holocaust assignment, to my benefit while completing goals in my
life as a student and outside of school.
