AquArium cAmps offer knowledge, fun for All Age groups
Children of all ages and interests will find something to love

about the camps offered at the
Texas State Aquarium this summer and into September.
For the little ones theres
story time with a parent, where
reading and learning about
wildlife are combined to build
early language skills and pique
their curiousity for nature.
For younger children beginning at pre-kindergarten, weekly camps offer a wide range of
activities appropriate to their
age, including creative play
and science discovery. These
camps, for the SeaSquirts, are
offered in two sessions each day,
morning and afternoon.
The next groups include students entering first grade on up
and are from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

the aquarium as a part of their

Campers wanting to learn
about plants and animals, or
start their own babysitting
business, or learning to be a
leader through the YWCA,
will have some tough choices
to make this summer.
Theres so many fun
camps from which to choose,
it will be tough picking just
a few.
The Early Scholars Academy offers pre-kindergarteners to first graders hands-on
activities to problem solve,
the wonders of wildlife, and
inspires young artists. Second to fourth graders can
learn the fun of healthy eating and exercise, will learn to
conduct field investigations
and can try their hand at mu-
sic and drama.

infant CPR and first aid and
create their own babysitting
business. Theres also the
chance to experience 3D design to design and program
their own robot. This is just
a few offered, and there are
many more, including camps
for families.
Del Mar College offers
Viking Camp where campers can learn algebra or take
conversational Spanish in a

Corpus Christis Museum of Science and History

voyage through space, bug

kitchen and learning about
crime scene investigation,

The museum also offers
dinosaur excavation, robotics and ballistics where students can launch rockets and
blast their own air cannon.
At the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature
Center, future birders will
learn all about the winged
creatures that have made this

beginners can join in on the
fun with more experienced

Young boys and girls, up

instructions throughout the

Summer is the perfect time

to practice craft, get creative
Any artist, musician, actor,

dancer or singer would get plenty
of practice this summer at a myriad
of activities for those who are artistically or creatively inclined.
Del Mar College offers a camp for
those who play in the orchestra, as
well as band. High school students
who play strings including violin,
viola, cello and bass are also invited to play with the Corpus Christ
Chamber Orchestra. Band camp
includes honor and concert bands,
a percussion ensemble, a brass
ensemble, a woodwind ensemble,
a jazz band and various chamber
music ensembles. Auditions for
ensemble and chair placement are
scheduled the first day of camp in
June. Scholarships are available.
Choir camp includes sectional
and full choral rehearsals with instruction in sight-reading, diction
and vocal techniques. Camp highlights include a beach party, talent
show, movies, a dance and karaoke.
Texas A&M University-Kings-
villes camps include one for concert band for middle and high
school students, as well as a marching camp for drum majors, drumline and color guard. Participants
can commute or stay on campus
and learn from master teachers
while growing as a musician.
Young campers will learn music,
art and dance at First United Methodist Church where they will sing,
play instruments, practice creative
movement and end their experience with a talent show.
The Corpus Christi Art Center
and Art Museum of South Texas
both have a variety of camps in all
different mediums including clay,
watercolor, pastels and the performing arts. Camps last throughout the summer and fill up quickly.
