MONDAY!

Frog dissection pre-lab!

Do you have any labs from last week??? If theyre done, turn them in!
Have your permission form? Turn it in!

Why do we dissect?

see, touch, and explore the various organs in the body of a real organism
frogs?
bodies provide a good overview of the organ systems of a complex
living thing
organs present in a frog, and the way they are laid out in the body,
are similar enough to humans to provide insight about how our
bodies work
small but big enough to see the structures
population control of invasive frog species

Pre-lab questions...
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Why will we wear gloves if we are participating in the dissection?

Why will we all wear goggles?
Why do we need to be careful with the tools?
Why should we be respectful to our lab team members and to the frogs?
(ex: not making fun of lab team members, not playing with the frogs)
What will happen if we do not wear gloves while participating, or do not
wear goggles, or are not careful with tools, or are disrespectful?

Amphibian Characteristics

Moist, thin skin without scales

Aquatic larva changes to terrestrial adult
Feet without claws
Respiration with gills, lungs, skin, mouth
Closed 2 loop circulation
Ectothermic (cold blooded)
Eggs without shells

...frogs are so unlike us, though!

Major organs youll be responsible for knowing/finding: heart, liver, lungs,
stomach, small intestine, pancreas, large intestine, kidneys, ovaries & oviducts
for female, testes for male. The functions of these are all identical to their
functions in a human.

So...lets compare some other stuff.
