Bates, Martin W. "Free Appropriate Public Education Under The Individuals With
Disabilities Education Act.." Brigham Young University Education & Law Journal 1
(1994): 215. Academic Search Premier. Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
This article is about the study for free appropriate public education under the Individuals
With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The purposes of IDEA are; Determination of the
provision of free appropriate public education, and to figure out whom is financially not
able to pay for costs of education. There are a lot of interesting ideas in this article such
as FAPE. They want FAPE to serve the best interests of everyone including a child with a
disability. I will not be using this in my article but it was very interesting to read and a
side of my argument that I had not thought about.
Barnes, Kate. "Free" Education: The Inclusion Of Educational Materials And Supplies
As Part Of The Right To Free Education." Journal Of Law & Education 40.2 (2011):
373.Supplemental Index. Web. 25 Feb. 2016.
Kate Barnes talks about how he believes not only should education be free but supplies
and materials should be as well. He argues that inclusion of materials and school supplies
should be advocated and that limiting the scope of free education to only include tuition
costs will prevent states from achieving the overall objective of providing free education.
He suggests that not covering school supplies will financially burden families who are
impoverished and are supporting more than one child in school. I will be using this in my
paper; it is a good example of pathos.
Bruenig, Matt. "The Case Against Free College." Dissent 4 (2015): 112. Project
MUSE. Web. 9 Mar. 2016.
In this article Matt Bruenig talks about the class differences of making education free and
who should get the grants and loans for free education. This is one of his stronger
main points Giving extra money to a class of disproportionately well-off people without
securing any reciprocal benefit to poor and working-class people who so often do not
attend college, all while valorizing the college student as a virtuous person individually
deserving of such benefits, would be at worst destructive, and at best, totally pointless.
Which I believe is true, but if the government is going to make college free, it should be
free for all. I will use this in my paper; it is a good example of ethos.
Cottom, Tressie McMillan. "Why Free College Is Necessary." Dissent 4 (2015): 115.
Project MUSE. Web. 9 Mar. 2016.
This article Tressie McMillan Cottom talks about how making college free isnt a new
idea but very overdue. Free college appeals to everyone she says. She talks about why
people dont go to college, she talks about how free college doesnt help the wealthy
people, and it only helps those who cannot afford to go to college. She talks about how
making college free wont make going to college uncomplicated. It takes a lot of

different things such as tests, cultural and social and forms. She makes some very
interesting arguments. I will use this in my paper; it is a good example of logos.
Cubberley, Fran1. "The Reality Of Free Community College Tuition." Journal of
College Admission 227 (2015): 21-23. Education Full Text (H.W. Wilson).
Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
The article discusses a proposal from U.S. President Barack Obama to make tuition at
community colleges free for two years. It mentions the tendency for many students to
choose work over school, some benefits of free college tuition such as employment,
attainment of a bachelor's degree and increased enrollment, and the impact of two tuitionfree years to National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) members
ranging from school counselors to postsecondary admission professionals. I will use this
in my paper; It is a good example of logos.

Education Next Talks With Sara Goldrick-Rab And Andrew P. Kelly."
Education Next 1 (2016): 54. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 9 Mar. 2016.
This article is about Bernie Sanders is for a free four year public college while Hillary
Clinton promise is for a tuition free community college and a no-loan tuition for a four
year public college. President Obamas proposed a tuition free community college earlier
this year. This article talks a lot about what President Obama left out in his actions trying
to make education free. Sara Goldrick-Rab and Andrew Kelly mention some very valid
concerns and points in this article. Such as Four-year state universities should not be
reserved for the financially privileged. I will be using this is my paper; It is a good
example of ethics.
Kelly, Andrew P. "The Cost Of 'Free' College." National Review 67.19 (2015):
39.MasterFILE Complete. Web. 25 Feb. 2016.
This article talks about the negatives about free education. It says that less people
would be motivated to go and get good grades. It also talks about how college students
would not cherish the hard work that they paid for. I will be using this in my paper; it is a
good example of pathos.
Matkin, Gary W. "Meeting The Challenge Of Free Education: How To Make Money
When The Competition Is Giving It Away." Continuing Higher Education
Review 75. (2011): 130-137. ERIC. Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
Gary Matkin states some very reasonable arguments in this article. His first argument is
when a company is doing well and then they have someone similar to their company
giving their exact product for free around the world. That first company would feel the
competition and not do as well. He talks about all the things to change instead of making
college free. Some of the things he thinks we need to change are the curriculum,

be using this in my paper; it is a good example of logos.

Higher Education: A Faculty Perspective." Education 136.2 (2015): 211.
Master FILE Complete. Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
In this paper, the cost of poor quality in higher education is measured by using the
activity-based costing approach. Most critical activities in colleges and universities are
driven by financial considerations. One way to cut cost is to improve the efficiency of
schools to address the issue of poor quality. Information on the cost of quality can help to
assess whether an institution is going in the right direction. I might use this in my paper,
it has some interesting facts but I am not positive if I am going use this article, it is a
good example of logos.

Cost And Increase Quality At American Universities. New Brunswick, New Jersey:
Rutgers University Press, 2013. EBook Collection (EBSCOhost). Web. 25 Feb. 2016.
This article talks about ways of lowering the cost of education. Robert Samuels states
some shocking facts that are terrifying and really does prove that education should be
free. One of those is that colleges misuse money for specific things and that needs to be
address and fixed. I will definitely be using this in my paper; some of his facts will
strengthen my essay and help my argument, it is a good example of ethos.
