The article named, Gun Crime and Violence Have Declined in Recent Years, states that
violence with firearms has declined from 1993 to 2011. Is was not exponential but less
crimes
have been caused by firearms. The article states, Nonfatal firearm-related violent
victimizations against persons age 12 or older declined 70%, from 1.5 million in 1993 to
456,500
in 2004.In addition, it speak of difference in race, sex, age of people committing crimes
while
using firearms and how that both male and female percentages have dropped.
Continues to
inform the reader that gun violence is decreasing. Includes facts to show proof of
decrease, so
the reader can see the difference in percentages of race, sex, and age. Author also
predicts that
violence using a firearm will continue to decrease.
The article named, Gun Crime and Violence Have Declined in Recent Years will
be

helpful to support my views on firearms in America. Is has facts that I can use to show
gun
safety is improving and that gun violence is decreasing. My belief that guns should not
be
banned but just increase gun laws is supported by this article. Shows violence is
remaining
steady but violence with the use of guns is decreasing. I can use that to say with gun
control all
violence percentage doesnt change but only gun violence, so removing guns will likely
not
impact overall violence percentage dramatically.

This article is named,The Threat of Guns in the Home Is Exaggerated. It states that
accidental deaths by firearms are decreasing on households. In addition it is more likely
that a
child drowns in a pool at their home that to be killed by a firearm. The article speaks of
programs
that should be takens, where kids are taught proper gun safety. These programs have
lowered
the likeliness that a child harms himself or others with a firearm. Continues to state that
most
teens and adults killed or injured by a firearm are because they involved themselves with
illegal

3
activities. Examples would be being a part of a gang, and or selling drugs.
This article is very informative and helpful provide information for my report. I
believe if a
parent owns a gun then all the family needs to have lessons on gun safety. It is shown in
this
article that the more widespread gun safety classes become it will lower that accidental
deaths
and injuries caused by firearms. I can also use the fact that most teenagers killed have
been
arrested before for gang violence and or drugs. Article states, Centers for Disease
Control(CDC) show that the real number of "children"people age fourteen or younger
who
die from firearms misuse every day is just one. But "one" is a pretty far distance from the
numbers cooked up by the gun-prohibition groups.

Wright, Stephen E. "Gun Control Laws Will Not Save Lives." Guns and Crime. Ed. Christine Watkins. Detroit:
Greenhaven Press, 2012. At Issue. Rpt. from "Anti-Gun Group Common Sense Gun Laws and Real
Common Sense." StephenEWright.com. 2010. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 18 Jan. 2016.

The article, Gun Control Laws Will Not Save Lives by Stephen Wright focuses on
reasoning why gun control is not working and doesnt change the amount of firearm violence.
States what basic media that apost gun think and their reasoning behind their beliefs. The
author rebuttals with facts backing up common sense to show that the gun control laws
implemented are not helping. An example of a gun control law that has shown no improvements
is the law that you cant have a magazine with over 10 bullets useless in this article would be,
Columbine massacre (where many victims were killed with a normal pump shotgun) [Eric]

4
Harris had only 10-round magazines for his 9mm, as did [Seung-Hui] Cho at the Virginia Tech
massacre [April 2007] for one of his pistols. This is one example of facts provided that show the
gun control laws are useless. Author uses common sense to explain the mindset of a murder
and why the gun laws do not change anything. A 10 round magazine will not limit them because
the average magazine change take less than 3 seconds. Stephen Wright shows these
misconceptions of criminal mindset when he uses common sense to show how their argument
is not reasonable.
My beliefs is to have certain gun control but this article has showed me that is isnt
working. I can use this to show the misconceptions of the media that have pushed for gun
controls laws and use the author's reasoning to support my beliefs that guns should not be
removed. He compares countries that have banned guns to before they did and after. The
homicide rates remained steady with no dramatic changes. This shows murderers will murder
with or without a gun.

Otero, Glen. "Gun Ownership Does Not Contribute to Violent Crime." Gun Violence. Ed. James D. Torr. San
Diego: Greenhaven Press, 2002. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 18 Jan.
2016.

The article, Gun Ownership Does Not Contribute to Violent Crime by Glen Otero
explains that banning guns will not solve our violence problems. With or without guns the
homicide rates remain similar in countries like Australia and the UK. This shows gun control will
not help lower the violence in America and removing guns won't help either. He fights media
bias beliefs of gun ownership. Explains how people think that if we remove guns then less
people will be killed because they believe guns are directly related to violence but as shown by
the National Institute of Justice there is no direct relationship. Author capitalizes on the fact that
83 percent of people will be a victim of a violent crime in their life. Many believe guns rarely get

5
used for self defence but the article states, 770,00 and 3.6 million civilian defensive gun uses
per year. The use of facts and reason show how gun control is unlikely to work and people do
use guns for protection.
This article can be used to support my reasoning of not having gun laws. This shows
that no matter the location gun laws rarely benefit the area. The belief that guns are not used for
self defence has been proven to be incorrect and I can use information from this article to back
up why. This article can be used to show how the media is blinding the citizens of basic
information. They capitalize on the negative so the public is influenced to believe that gun laws
will help when the have been proven to not be effective.
