Social Issue Reflection
The social issue I wrote my essay on was the emergence of racial surveillance in muslim
communities. Prior to writing this essay, I knew a considerable amount about the topic of racial
surveillance. This was mainly due to the fact that It was a common topic during the policy
debate season. I had once debated a team that was advocating to stop the implementation of
FBI informants in muslim areas. This debate debate round greatly informed me in the status of
the surveillance of the FBI in the muslim communities. The opposing team greatly emphasized
the fact that the FBI informants were greatly unexperienced at their job, and frequently intrusive
to the citizens of the communities. I also have seen multiple reports of some presidential
candidates inputting their thoughts about this program. Multiple candidates view that this
program should be abolished, while others want to increase the amount of informants. Overall I
feel as though this was a highly controversial social issue that I was interested in researching
about.
My work in this project greatly represents what Im interested in researching about. I find
political issues greatly interesting and I took this opportunity to link a political conflict to a social
issue. I strive to learn more about political influence into everyday society and this was a great
opportunity to learn even more. As I worked on this essay I learned a lot more than I knew
already. This was mainly in relation to how the FBI informants specifically worked to spy on the
muslim citizens. I believe this project helped me learn a lot more about the subject, prior to me
starting the project.
One way my piece of work was separated was unique, was due to the fact that many
people dont know about these FBI informants, in the African American or Muslim communities.

Even though these FBI informants have been around for more than a decade, they have not
gotten much publicity. This is a very important aspect of my piece of my essay, due to the fact
that many people do not have an opinion on it yet. This is in opposition to other topics such gun
control or planned parent-hood, which many people already have large political opinions toward.
My topic also has the ability to educate a lot more people, due to the fact contains a plethora of
elements, and is largely unknown.
One thing I would like to improve on is the preciseness in my writing. I frequently tend to
have run-on sentences, which could be unappealing to a reader. I want to increase my
sophistication as well, by following more grammatical rules and adding more content that is
much more relevant to each section of my essay. I plan on doing this by increasing the amount
of info, in a more effective manner. I feel being repetitive in my writing, lowers the quality of the
writing. Adding this attribute to my writing will help me improve my writing not only for now, but in
future situations as well.
