Sekhasamining training institute is an institute that is registeredunder VETA with registration
No.VET/KGR/PR/2013/007/Coffering miningcourses for those with aspirations of working in mines and
who want to be self-employed. The institute is located about15m away from Ngara bus terminal, left hand
side on the Ngara-Bujumbura Road. We are privileged to welcome students for ourMay-Juneinstitute
intake.

2. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The applicant should possess a certificate in secondary education and above.

3. COURSE WORK DURATION

The duration intended for the each course is as indicatedabove with four semesters per each, withan
exception of English course where the learner will be limited to two semesters only.
The time intended for lecturing hours will range from 8:00am to 12:15pm for morning sessions and
2:00pm to 5:30pm for afternoon sessions.
The above durations are vulnerable to change due to any unavoidable circumstances.

4. SCHOOL ENROLLMENT
SEKHASAenrolls a big number of students from all parts of the country in all of its fields of education, with a
minimum qualification of form four education. A few students from East African countries (Burundi and
Rwanda) are not left behind. This helps in sharing experience and learning new cultures among the students
which also can improve their competitiveness and their awareness.

5. SCHOOL INTAKE
The institute only conducts one intake with four semesters per each as indicated above.
The intake starts from the month of Mayto Juneof every year. Advertisements for the above intake is
normally launched three months prior to the event.

6. SIZE
There is no doubt that SEKHASA is the biggest vocational training institute in Kagera region in terms of
students enrollment, and in fact number of academic staff. Recently the institute has increased the number
of lecture halls buildings, office buildings and even number of academic courses such English course and
computer studies. The additional of these courses is as a result of the efforts done by the institute to
analyze the requirements of the above skills in mining sector and the society at large. The institute is having
plans to expand more gradually as time goes on.

7. CONDUCTING OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

The daily routine of academic programs will be conducted as per the description of the school almanac
available at school and on the school official websites. Academic programs are modular based within a
specificsemester; whereby after the completion of the course students will do their final exams under the
Curricular Based Assessment (CBA) format supervised by VETA and consequently the certificates will be
provided and approved by VETA.

8. INDUSTRIAL PRACTICAL TRAINING

Students will be exposed to Industrial Practical Training so as to expand their knowledge and their creativity.
IPT assessment modalities will be managed by using logbook comprising occupational areas to be covered.
The industry to which the trainee is attached shall provide a supervisor to guide and assess him/her in the
day to day activities.IPT is normally not less than 9weeks and is conducted before the students complete
their course. The institute has an obligation to make sure that all students have their places for their practical
training.

9. SCHOOL REGULATIONS
Despite some challenges such as accommodation and some tight rules which some of the students are not
comfortable with, it is clear that SEKHASA (SMTI) could be the best vocational training institution in Kagera
Region.This can also be influenced by a number of factors, including the following below.

STAFF COMMITMENT

Administration ofSEKHASAis very serious on making sure that its staff attend all the lectures and give the
students what have to be given and failure to do so can result on firing, and they always try to avoid all the
excuses and negligence.

TEACHING QUALITY

However the students at SEKHASAget satisfied on how they are being taught and the experience they have
here. Students are taught a lot of things in their course of study which in most of other vocational institutions
is not the case especially some public institutions. Teaching quality can also be indicated by number of ideal
tests and assignments by which students are given which improve their understanding and brings high
awareness of different stuffs within their course of study.

SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT

As it is in most of big universities and colleges around the world sports is given very high priority at
SEKHASA, which involves many different kinds of sports and great prizes and awards to the winners, this
thing is not the same even to other higher learning institutions in Tanzania but instead they just have small
tournaments which are not even competitive.
