This Life Alert ad uses
many rhetorical elements,
is
including color, line and typography to sell their
product. The first thing you see on the ad is the
big alone in red letters which is directed to an
audience who are alone as well as active,
independent seniors. The alone also inspires a
yearning for community, which will establish a
dedicated consumer base, creating what is known
as a cult brand. Using warm colors like red-which draws attention-- and yellow, which
symbolizes hope and happiness, Life Alert
welcomes their audience in a comfortable and
friendly manner with soft lines and curvilinear
shapes. Life Alert uses statistics, Every 11
minutes to appeal to logos, inserts an image of a
happy senior who approves the product to
appeal to pathos, and displays registered
trademark symbols to show their credibility to
appeal to ethos.

Thank you so much. That's so nice. Isn't he a great guy. He doesn't get a fair press; he doesn't get it. It's just not fair. And I have to tell you
I'm here, and very strongly here, because I have great respect for Steve King and have great respect likewise for Citizens United, David and
everybody, and tremendous respect for the Tea Party. Also, also the people of Iowa. They have something in common. Hard-working people.
They want to work, they want to make the country great. I love the people of Iowa. So that's the way it is. Very simple. ..
Now, we have to build a fence. And it's got to be a beauty. Who can build better than Trump? I build; it's what I do. I build; I build nice fences,
but I build great buildings. Fences are easy, believe me. I saw the other day on television people just walking across the border. They're
walking. The military is standing there holding guns and people are just walking right in front, coming into our country. It is so terrible. It is so
unfair. It is so incompetent. And we don't have the best coming in. We have people that are criminals, we have people that are crooks. You
can certainly have terrorists. You can certainly have Islamic terrorists. You can have anything coming across the border. We don't do anything
about it. So I would say that if I run and if I win, I would certainly start by building a very, very powerful border
You can't have Bush. The last thing we need is another Bush. Now I made that statement very strongly, and now every one says the last thing-You know they copied it. I'll be accused of copying the statement; that's the bad thing. But I said it. I was the one that said it first, and I mean
it. The last thing we need is another Bush. Now, he's totally in favor of Common Core; that's a disaster, that's bad, it should be local and all of
that. But he's totally in favor of Common Core. He's very, very weak on immigration. Don't forget--remember his statement--they come for love.
I say, what? Come for love? You've got these people coming, half of them are criminals. They're coming for love? They're coming for a lot of
other reasons, and it's not love. And when he runs, you got to remember his brother really gave us Obama. I was never a big fan, but his
brother gave us Obama. 'Cause Abraham Lincoln coming home back from the dead could not have won the election because it was going so
badly and the economy was just absolutely in shambles that last couple of months. And then he appointed Justice Roberts. And Jeb wanted
Justice Roberts. And Justice Roberts basically approved Obamacare in a shocking decision that nobody believes. So you can't have Jeb Bush.
And he's going to lose aside from that; he's not going to win. So Mitt and--you just can't have those two. That's it. That's it. It's so
simple..
This plan is just a basic disaster. Nobody knows.

Self evident truths

Analysis
Donald Trump addresses his audience --his voters-- in
this fallacious speech. Since very few of his arguments
make sense, he relies on the pathos to persuade his
audience. This approach appeals to Americans with a
deep sense of patriotism and would be a very effective if
used with narrowcasting-- targeting specific individuals
that fit a specific demographic. By using
overgeneralization, Trump merges terrorists, criminals,
and immigrants into one group to assume the worst of
anyone crossing the border into our land. His ethos
--credibility-- is weak, using only his wealth and wellknown name, Trump to gain supporters, employing ad
verecundiam. Trumps knowledge is very minimal, and
by using fallacies, he is able to enhance his few points
to make himself appear more educated, credible, and fit
for president.

Analysis
The whole point of the ad was to appeal to as many people as possible --we achieved that
by overgeneralizing-- while maintaining a certain directness toward each demographic
group in order to sell our product to--well, everyone. We tried many different ways to
capture the audiences attention from all caps words to exclamation marks to noticeable
colors like red. We chose blue as the color to represent ANIMO because blue is
associated with calmness; our air gives you peace of mind. Our name ANIMO comes from
the latin word anima which means air or life. Using quotes from people who have tried our
product, we are able to establish ethos; the fallacy ad verecundiam lends credibility to our
product. We also used a quote using the fallacy post hoc ergo propter hoc to make this
product seem even more amazing. The smiling octopus and lungs give off very positive
feelings that encourage a younger, more playful side of yourself while also appealing to
pathos. Following Song, from The Persuaders, we inserted a logo in strategic places and
also places that dont make sense. To prevent the ad from becoming too childish, we used
the capital letters and the slanted lines, opting for no border to create a more
professional or minimal style that appeals to adults as well as younger consumers.
The clean and minimal style is also indicative of our quality of oxygen. When we present an
ad that seems clean, we are implying that our air is as clean as the ad is.
