Childrenandteensshouldtakeastandagainstdiscrimination.
Theyhadpreviouslytaken
astandintheCivilRightsMovement,sowhynotnow?
TheChildrensMarchoccurredfrom
May2toMay5,1963.Thechildrenthatparticipateddidnotcarewhethertheyweregoingto
jailalltheywantedwastheirfreedomandsegregationtoend.Astheywerebeingjailed,the
childrenandteensinjailsangfreedomsongs,showingsomuchprideintowhattheyweredoing.
Theywantedjusticeinsteadofinjustice.Allfortheirconstitutionalrightstobejustified.Forus,
aschildrenandteens,wewantdiscriminationtoend.Itbegsthequestionwithdiscriminationall
aroundandcontinuouslybeingtoldatschoolhowwrongitis,whydoesntthatcarryoutwhen
webecomeadults?
DiscriminationissuchadebatedtopicrightnoweversincetheMichael
Brownsincident.Contemporarily,childrenandteensdonthavetostandupagainst
discrimination,butlearningaboutdiscriminationshouldbeourstartingpoint.
Thechildrenin
themarchwerentgoingtositaroundandwaitfortheirfreedomtheytookastandfortheir
rights.Now,discriminationhappenseverywhere,butsomeplacestakeittoofar.Theyouthcan
positivelychangetheworldsomeofusjusthaventsetourmindstoityet.
HaveyouheardofClaudetteColvin?Shewasactuallythefirstpersontorefusetogive
herseatup,ninemonthsbeforeRosaParks.ClaudetteColvinwas15yearsoldwhenshewas
arrestedandhandcuffed.Astheyarrestedher,shescreamedItsmyconstitutionalrighttosit
hereasmuchasthatlady.Ipaidmyfare,itsmyconstitutionalright!.

thepolicecartheydidmanythingstoher.Mostimportantlytheyharassedherandshedidntdo
anything,knowingifshetalkedbackandtriedtohurtthem,thingswouldhavebeenworse.
Eventhoughshewastreatedbadly,shehadfeltproudofherselfbecauseshestoodupforher
rights,andthatswhatweshoulddo.Claudettesactionsweremoreextreme,butwecanstriveto
emulatehercourageinthefaceofadversity.
Wehaveourrights,andIbelievethatsomearebeingviolatedrightnow.Oneofour
rightsthathasalwaysbeenviolatedisChildAbuseandMistreatment.IntheUnitedStatesmore
thanthreemillioncasesofchildabusehavebeenreported.Manyaresubjectedtophysical
violence,and10%arereportedtobesexuallyabused.Overonethousandchildrenperyeardie
fromviolenceorneglectintheU.S.Thedepartmentofeducationreportedin2007that200,000
studentssufferedfromcorporalpunishmentinschool,usuallythevictimsarehandicapped.
Thesechildrenshouldnthavetheirrightsviolated.Sincethishappensalotweshouldeducate
thepublic.Everythingisinourhandstoendchildabuse.Oftentimeschildrenaregiventape
recordersfromtheirparentstoseewhatsgoingonatschool.Parentsshoulddothattotheir
childrenwhentheyhaveasuspicionsonhowaschoolisneglectingachild.Childneglect
doesntonlyoccuratschool,itcanhappenathomeinfrontofthetelevision.
BannedTVshowsthathavebeentakenofftheairshouldnotshowontelevisionshould
betakendowneverywhere.Thereare1940sand50sbannedtvshowsthatareontheweb.
Theywerebannedforspecificreasoningandthemainreasonwasbecausetheshowsareracist.
InavideoIhadrecentlywatchedaboutthistowncalledLazyTown,AfricanAmericanswere
layingaroundanddoingnothing.Acaucasianwomanarrivestotheislandtoteachthemhowto
work,andassheisteachingthem,themenareperceivedasiftheyweredumbandthewomen

wereshownasiftheydidntknowhowtowork.WhenIscrolleddownthevideoIcouldnthelp
butnoticehowmanypeoplehadsaidveryoffensivethings.Commentswereverysimilartothis
comment:
whyisthiscartoonracist?itsdamntruethatblackpeoplearelazyanddontcare
muchabouthavingsuccessinlife!imfromeuropeandafricanshereareexactlythesameas
theiramericancounterpart,theychoosetheeasiestandrelaxingwaytomakemoneywhichis
doingillegalacts!Andialsobelievethatsthereasonwhyafricaneverdevelopsorstays
backward.
.Wecantcleanupthemessouttherebutwecanbecomemoreinformedabout
whatsunacceptable.Forteacherstheycouldteachaboutracism.Whenmyfatherwasyounger
thewayhisteacherwentoverracismwasthatheshowedthemvideosfromthe1940sand50s.
MostoftheTVshowstheteachershowedwereLooneyToons.Byshowingthestudentsthose
videostheyhadabetterunderstandingonracism.
Socialmediahasabiginfluenceonteensthatweareabletocreateawareness.Alice
Grossisamissinggirlwhowasntgettingmuchrecognition,butsomepeopleonTwitterhave
beenmakingwebpagesforhertryingtospreadawarenessaboutherdisappearance,justlike
mostpeoplewhohavemissingchildrenwould.Theonlydifferenceistheyrespreadingthe
messagethroughsocialmedia.ThatisactuallyhowIfoundoutaboutMichaelBrown.People
haveasuspicionthatshesbeenmurderbecausetheyfoundanartifactofclothingfromherthat
showshowlongshehasbeenmissing.PolicehavebeendoingtheirbesttofindAliceGross.
Theyevenarrestedthemanwhomighthavekidnappedher,butthemanwasbailedout
September9,2014.ImentionAliceGross,whohasntbeenfoundyet,becauseIfoundit
incredibletohearaboutamissingchildthroughsocialmedia.Also,Ifounditincrediblethat
peoplehavemadepagesabouther,orteenshavetweetedaboutherandaretryingtoget

celebritiesattentionaboutthisandgetthemtocreateawareness.Asteenswehavesucha
powerfulwayontogettingthingstrending.Thatssomethingwehavesomuchcontroloverand
justshowshowsocialmediacanbesuchabighelptoeducatepeoplewithwhatsgoingon
aroundtheworld.
Weasteensandchildrenhavesomuchpowerintheworldbutwedontuseitcorrectly
mostofthetime.Becauseasteenswehavesuchahugeinfluenceonsocialmedia,itsgoingto
beourjobtospreadthewordasmuchaspossible.Usinganykindofsocialmedia,makeapage
abouthowchildrenandteenscanstopdiscrimination,becauseourmainproblemistryingto
convinceotherteensthattheycanhelpcantheworld.Youmaythinkthatchildrendonthave
muchtocontributebuttheyactuallydo,andthisreallygoesevenfurthertoteachersifateacher
showshis/hersstudentsacartoonfrom1940sor50sandthoroughlyexplainsracism.Those
childrencouldpossiblygohomeandtelltheirparentsaboutit,becauseanythingthataffectsa
childaffectstheparent/guardiantoo.Childrencandemandsomuchbutifweareabletoget
themtodemandfortheirequalrightsandtohaveequalityallaround,wecanmakeadifference.
