Topographic Location Map

Location map is at next page.

2.2

Site Preparation
After the location is stacked out the area shall be prepared for the bore hole drilling

process. All the debris shall be removed & uneven surfaces shall be leveled as per the

requirement. The trench shall be excavated to divert the water near to the bore area so that the
required water shall be pumped into the bore hole for drilling purpose.

2.3

Fixing & Installation of Rig

After the area for the drilling process is prepared Percussion Drilling Machine with its all

boring equipment shall be fixed & Installed at the Bore Hole Point. The tripod of the rig shall be
coinciding exact at above the Bore Hole Point.
2.4

Fixing & Installation Casing Head

After the fixing of the Rig, the Steel Casing Head of 3 .00 meter & 1.070 meter dia. shall

be fixed at exact position in horizontal & vertical plane as per approved drawing. For this activity
a pit shall be excavated at up to a depth of 2.5 meters. Then the Casing Head shall be anchored
& fixed. After the fixing of the Casing Head the pit shall be refilled by the excavated material &
shall be rammed well. After the fixation & Installation of the Rig & Steel Casing at the correct
position an inspection by Consultant shall be made for the satisfaction of the Engineer.
2.5

Pile Boring
The Bailing Bucket shall used to drill the bore hole. Bailing bucket shall be tied well with

rope of the Percussion Drilling Machine to drill the bore hole. During the boring process the
water level in the bore & the verticality shall be checked time by time regular in sequence, so
that the bore shall be drill correct as per the specified requirement. The bore shall be drilled to
the tip elevation which is 949.640. During the execution of the drilling necessary precautions
shall be made such as not to cause vibrations resulting in damage harmful loosening or
softening of soil outside the pile that has to be filled with concrete. Pile Boring record shall be
made for the exact results & progress of the work.

2.6

Excavation from Bore Hole

The soil & debris from inside the pile borehole shall be removed by bucket. The bore
hole shall be immediately cleared when the required depth is achieved. To make sure that the
sedimentary layer is reduced with minimum thickness. After the clearance of the borehole the
diameter & depth of the borehole shall be inspected by the Consultant.
2.7

Samples Tests & Drilling Log

The soil samples shall be taken up to the top elevation of the pile and carry out in situ

Standard Penetration Tests within, and ahead of borehole on the line of vertical axis of the pile
at these locations after One & Half ( 1.5 ) meter interval. Each disturbed sample shall, as far as
possible, be truly representative of the grading of in situ soil at the point from which it is taken,
without contamination by other material. It shall be approximately five (5) kg in weight and shall
be placed in a strong air tight container immediately after its removal from the sampler. The
container shall be sealed as soon as the sample has been placed in and shall be taken to the
site laboratory for grading moisture content and Atterberg Limits Tests. And, the drilling log shall
be made during the course of the drilling so that the correct data of the sub-surface strata can
be achieved for the satisfaction of the Geological Requirements.
2.8

Pile Reinforcement
The reinforcement for test pile shall be assembled and securely tied by means of binding

wire and by welded reinforcement rings of twenty five (25) mm diameter, in such a manner as to
form a rigid cage. The required concrete cover to the reinforcement shall be maintained by
suitable spacers securely attached to the reinforcement and of sufficient strength to resist
damage during handling of the reinforcement cage into the pile. The distance between the
spacers shall be such that the required cover (75 mm) is maintained throughout and that there
is no displacement of the reinforcement cage in the course of the concreting operation. The
reinforcement cage assembly shall be lowered in to the bore hole in sections. The lapping shall
be provided as per approved drawing requirements as for assembly on the ground followed,
namely the longitudinal reinforcement shall be lapped and the spiral reinforcement. Spacers
maintaining concrete cover shall be located immediately below and above the laps at four points
spaced around the cage.

2.9

Concrete Mix Design

Materials

The materials used in Concrete mix as per approved mix design have the following
Sources
Aggregate

Margalla

Sand Source

Lawrence Pur

Cement

Fauji

Chemical

Ultra Company

Water

Locally

Compressive Strength of Concrete in Test Pile shall be of Class A3 as prescribed in the

approved drawings & specifications. The material specification and mixing ratio has been
attached
Reinforcing Steel used for reinforcement shall be of grade 60 steel conforming to ASTM A-706
with minimum yield strength of 4220 kg/Sq. cm (60,000 psi) as per approved drawing
(Dwg # NPB-GN-ST-023) General Notes.

2.10

Installation of Liner, Tremie Tube & Placing of Concreting.

LINER: After the fixation of Steel cage, Steel liner shall be fixed at its correct position as

per approved drawing. The detailed sketch of Liner is at next page.

TREMIE TUBE & PLACING OF CONCRETING:

The Tremie pipe of Two Hundred & Fifty (250) mm diameter of water tight construction shall be
used for lowering the concrete into the bore hole. The means of supporting the Tremie shall be
such as to permit the free movement of the discharge end in the concrete in the pile. The
Tremie pipe shall be fitted with travelling plug, which shall be placed at the top of the pipe before
charging the Tremie pipe with concrete as barrier between the concrete and water, so as to
prevent water entering the tube and mixing with the concrete. The Tremie shall be carefully
lowered in to the borehole so that the end of the tube shall rest at about one hundred and fifty
(150) mm above the bottom of the bore hole with reinforcement in the bore hole & the hopper
end of the Tremie Tube shall be filled with concrete. It shall be slightly raised so that when the
concrete reaches the bottom it flows out of the lower end of the tube, & fills the bottom of the
bore hole. There after the rate of withdrawal of the Tremie shall be gradual so as to ensue the
end of the Tremie pipe is always one & half (1.5) meters below the top of the concrete in the
bore hole. An allowance shall be made for the top five hundred (500) mm of concrete in
borehole during concreting being unsatisfactory. When the next batch is placed in the hopper
the Tremie shall be slightly raised but not out of the concrete at the bottom, until the batch
discharges to the bottom of the upper. This operation shall be controlled by calculating the
volume of the concrete required to fill one linear meter of pile and then by measuring the rate of
withdrawal of the tube corresponding to the volume of batch in the hopper. The flow shall then
the retarded by lowering the tube the depth of the concrete in the borehole shall be measured at
intervals to keep a constant check that the Tremie pipe bottom is immersed in concrete.
Concreting shall continue until the concrete has reached an elevation five hundred (500)
mm higher than the designated pile Cut Off Level which is 980.640. The concrete shall be
placed in one continuous operation from tip level to Cut-Off elevation and shall be carried out in
such a manner as to avoid segregation.
2.11

Pile Records

Pile Record shall be maintained and a copy of record shall be submitted to the Engineer. The
Pile Record shall give full information about the pile the Performa is at next.
