The Framework - CRITIQUES

CRITIQUES OF THE MODEL

One major criticism of the model is that 50 percent of the
evaluation is based on test scores. While the test scores are
based on the improvement of the cohort and student, we all
know that an individual may not improve on a test for many
other reasons.
Another major criticism in PA is that effectiveness is built into
the overall improvement of the school itself. If you are in a
better school, you could see better Danielson scores.
The research conducted below also noted that some major
concerns about the time needed to be put in by administrators
and teachers.

CRITIQUES OF THE MODEL

Another critique noted by the research done by Aramath was getting
teacher buy in.
Teachers in the Michigan schools had major concerns if it would be used
to remove teachers.
In addition, the teachers in the study stated they were confused about
what they were being evaluated on and that the professional
development was not great.
Professional development also comes at a cost to a district.

Theoretical Soundness of the Model

The Danielson Group provides a plethora of research that backs up the
effectiveness of the Domains and the model on how to evaluate
teachers.

In particular, a 2009 Excellence in Teaching project showed that the
Framework was valid and reliable in evaluating satisfactory and
unsatisfactory teachers.

The Framework Implications across grades

Implications for the Model Across All Grade

Levels
The Danielson Model for teacher evaluation is sound for teachers and
administrators across all grade levels and for all ages.

This short video shows a good example of how teachers use the model
in their classrooms across all ages and grade levels.
Teachers have a great guide on how a good classroom is run and they
have a solid model to follow when implementing curriculum at their
grade levels.
The implication of using the Danielson model to guide instruction is one
of a potentially major pay off.
