Time Flies on Wings of Lightning

It is critical that we use our time wisely as missionaries. When we plan our
missionary work and use our time wisely, the Lord will bless and magnify us to
better serve in His kingdom. When we plan and use our time wisely we make
time our servant instead of being a servant of time. Hymn # 226 explains,
Time flies on wings of lighting; we cannot call it back.
It comes, then passes forward along its onward track.
And if we are not mindful, the chance will fade away,
For life is quick in passing. Tis as a single day.
As PMG notes, Your missionary call letter states: You will also be expected
to devote all your time and attention to serving the Lord, leaving behind all
other personal affairs. D&C 60:13 reminds us that, Thou shalt not idle away
thy time, neither shalt thou bury thy talent that it may not be known. Again,
in the D&C 88:123 we read, Cease to be idle; cease to be unclean; .cease
to sleep longer than is needful wonderful counsel for a consecrated
missionary serving in the mission field. Managing our time gives us control over
our lives so we can serve more effectively. Elder Neal A Maxwell has
beautifully stated referring to the Savior, I thank him for his marvelous
management of times, for never misusing a moment, including the moments
of meditation. Even his seconds showed his stewardship. President Spencer
W Kimball taught that, Wise time management is really the wise
management of ourselves. Again in PMG we read, Choose to be proactive
in accounting for your work to the Lord and your mission leaders. Dont wait to
be asked. Dont require others to follow up with you frequently. Have a desire
to account for your labor. Accept full responsibility for your efforts. Never
blame others for difficult circumstance or lack of progress.

Dont you love the story shared by Elder Dallin H Oaks: None of us should
be like the fisherman who thinks he has been fishing all day when in reality he
has spent most of his time getting to and from the water, eating lunch, and
fussing with his equipment. Fishing success is related to how long you have
your line in the water, not to how long you are away from the apartment.
Some fishermen are away from home for twelve hours and have their line in
the water for ten hours. Other fishermen are away from home for twelve hours
and have their line in the water for only two hours. This last type may wonder
why they do not have the same success as others.A missionarys line
should drop into the fishing water the moment he or she leaves the
apartment.
We talk all of the time about how we work hard AND we work smart.
Working smart, to me, means thoughtfully and prayerfully planning every
single day to get the most out of the precious time we have as full-time
missionaries. When we plan, we need to plan using the key indicators. When
we include our investigator pool, less actives, recent converts, part member
families, members we need to visit including leaders, referrals, finding new
investigators by contacting, and use of the Area Book for an effective pass by
plan, every day can be filled with meaningful, productive things to do.
However, effective planning requires discipline, hard work and inspiration. It is
a wonderful habit to form and the effective, productive missionary learns that
the great secret to missionary work is effective planning and wise use of time.
What we cant let happen is that we merely fill the time with busyness
activities that consume time but are not very productive. I am sure you will all
agree that the best days of your mission are when you have planned well,
used your time wisely and worked really, really hard. You feel so wonderful at
the end of the day. You know that the Savior is pleased with your efforts and
you feel tremendous fulfillment. On days like that you say to yourself, THIS is
why I came hereto have days like THAT. It is my prayer that we may have
many days like THAT in service to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Con deseos de usar tiempo eficazmente,

Presidente Merril T Dayton

Boldness vs Fearfulness

Discretion is recognizing and avoiding words, actions, and attitudes that could
bring undesirable consequences.
It is using wisdom as we choose the words we speak, the things we do and the
attitudes we have. Discretion when properly used will protect a man's health,
wealth, his wisdom and reputation. In Proverbs 2:11 we read, "Discretion shall
preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee."
Solomon is a good example in the scriptures of someone who had wisdom,
understanding and discretion as he worked with the two women determining the
babys mother. Joseph also is a good example of discretion as he responded to
the wicked and lustful motives of Potiphar's wife. Joseph also gave wise counsel
to Pharaoh "Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man DISCREET and wise, and
set him over the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers
over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven
plenteous years. And let him gather all the food of those good years that
come...and that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of
famine. "Genesis 41:33-36. Pharaoh then says to Joseph, "Forasmuch as God hath
shewed thee all this, there is none so DISCREET and wise."
A person who demonstrates discretion knows when it is best to speak and when it
is best to be silent. Abraham Lincoln said, "Tis better to be silent and be thought a
fool, than to speak and remove all doubt." A discreet person knows how to
describe unpleasant things in a pleasant way. A person who can acknowledge
there is a challenge but then inspires a group of people to overcome, giving
them hope and a new vision.

Discretion is
Developing and exercising an understanding heart.
Distinguishing right from wrong and choosing right.
Treasuring and using wisdom.
Recognizing and responding to the motives of people.
Turning knowledge into wise counsel.
Governing what you want to say when youre angry but instead saying the
right thing in the right way.
Having the spirit of wisdom and walking in it.
We can apply discretion to missionary work by:
-Being careful not to say things to those of different faiths that could bring on an
argument
-Refraining from the use of words that could discourage you or your companion
-Remembering to think before speaking and choosing appropriate words
-Avoiding gossip or speaking ill of anyone at any time
-Avoiding bad situations that could lead to trouble
-Practicing good manners with our companion, ward members, investigators,
and all
around us.
-Learning from others mistakes so we don't have to make them.
-Being actionary instead of reactionary
It is a joy for us to witness so many emotionally and socially mature missionaries
who manifest discretion on a daily basis. You lift our souls and inspire us more than
you will ever know.

It was such a blessing to
have Antonio go to the family
home evening at the mission
home. Antonio really loved
getting to know you and he
loved your lesson on the Holy
Ghost and he really thinks that
you're a very nice person. So
Antonio and his wife came to
church again this past week
and it was fast and testimony
meeting and Antonio got up
and bore his testimony. I just
can't believe how strong his
testimony is already that he
gets up to share it with the rest
of the congregation and he's
not even a member. I love
Antonio and he's doing so well

on the 21st of May and he
wants you to be at his

missionary work brings into
your life when you obey the

so much.
But we're really excited for
this week. We're hoping and
praying for many miracles. We
found a family yesterday. And
they are golden. Kofi got
baptized like you saw, a very
quiet man. He's wonderful, I
love the man and I hope he
will be able to progress
forward toward being dressed
in white again. He's a
wonderful person.
