The opening lecture

was concise and
included students. The
hook grabbed their
attention and had them
interested. The
students were given
time to use different
operational symbols to
come up with as many
values as possible using
the order of operations.

The students had

to discuss with
their table and
explain to the
class how they
found different
values by using
order of
operations.

The activity on
moving symbols
around allowed
students to justify
why they came up
with different
values.

The teacher asked students to

clap for their classmates after
they shared. It was great that
you shared facts about yourself
in the icebreaker as well. It was
great to have students see what
interests they have in common
with other classmates. Asking
students if they related to
another students fact was a
great idea to highlight that. The
use of the visuals was
interesting for the students.

Consider
identifying 2 or 3
questions that
you want all
students to be
able to answer
about the
content before
leaving the class
for the day. Then
use a strategy to
answer each of
those questions.

Students going to
the board were
having difficulty
explaining the
steps to the
problem and that
made it even
harder for them to
justify their
answer. In the

Evidence: Continue to address student behavior and engagement as a whole class but consider addressing specific
students who are causing disruption as this can greatly impact the culture of learning in the classroom.

Evidence: The order of operations activity was on the analysis level but there were many students struggling with the
worksheet. They would put in the symbols but still use the order of operation incorrectly.

Debrief Notes:
Reviewing schedule was a positive as students were confused yesterday.
Repeating instructions the teacher gave instructions and asked a few students to repeat what they were. Instructions are
very clear and the teacher makes sure that students understand the directions.
One student explained the directions to a student at their table.
Consider a timer for the activity to encourage students to move quickly.

Does anyone know 13 squared? What would we do first? Meaning what? Can you solve what is in the parenthesis for us?
Which is?
Good job asking Vincent to raise his hand while he was calling out.
