Up until recently, regeneration was considered to belong to the realm of comic

fiction. The purpose of my research was to compare the level of expression of gene

pathways between regenerated, young and old mouse thymii. The importance of the

ratios is in looking for gene pathways that were upregulated or downregulated in the

regenerated thymus when compared to the young mice (the old mice thymii serve the

function of a control). My results indicated that, based on all the readings, the

regenerated (both cortex and medulla) tissues in the thymus, at Day 20 post-castration,

showed increased upregulation than the young tissues. However, the genes that were

expressed also were negative regulators, which were present in the old thymic tissues.

This indicates that regenerated at D20 has reached its peak regeneration and is starting to

shrink again.
