8 guests have to be seated on a
rectangular table, (4 on each side). 2
particular guests desire to sit on one
side of the table and 3 on other side.
The number of ways in which such
 We have 2 choices available on one side and 1
sitting arrangement can be made is ?
choices available on other side. Let us start with
one side. The number of choices are 2! * 3p2 =
2*6 = 12, However, these 2 groups (2 each) can
exchange seats among themselves, thus we
have 12*2 = 24. Let us now come to the other
side of the table, we have 3! * 3C1 = 18 options.
However, the 4th person can take any seat out of
4 seats, so we have 18*4 = 72
 Thus 72 *24 = 1728 answer.

There are 6 questions (with one
choice) in a paper. In how many
ways can I person attempt one or
more questions?
 If I try to attempt all 6 questions, the choices are :
2*2*2*2*2*2 = 64
 If I try to attempt any 5, then I have 5 choices 6c5, I can
further take any choice out of these: 6C5*2*2*2*2*2 = 192
 Similarly, if I try to attempt 4 out of these, I have
6C4*2*2*2*2 = 240
 Similarly, if I try to solve 3 questions, I have 6C3*2*2*2 =
160
 Similarly, if I try to attempt 2 questions, I have 6C2*2*2 =
60
 Similarly, if I try to attempt only one question, 6C1*2 = 12
 Let us add all these : 64+192+240+160+60+12 =728
answer.

How many even numbers greater
than 300 can be formed from
1,2,3,4,5 without repetition?
 We need to have 2 or 4 at the end. Thus
we have 2 choices for last digit.
 Let us start with 5 digit numbers.
 We have 4 choices for first place.
 4*3*2*1*2 = 48. similarly for 4 digit
numbers, we have 4*3*2*2 = 48 options.
Similarly for 3 digit numbers, we have
3*3*1+ 2*3*1 = 15. thus 48+48+15=111.

How many digits between 100 and
1000 can be made from
1,2,3,4,5,6,7?
 We have to make 3 digit number. For
first digit we have 7 options, for second
digit we have 6 choices, for third digit, we
have 5 choices.
 Thus 7*6*5 = 210 answer.

5 bulbs of which 3 are defective are
to be tried in 2 bulb points in a dark
room. In maximum how many trials
will the room be lighted? What are
the total ways of lighting?
 Let us assume that we start with both
defective bulbs (we don’t know which is
OK). We have to make second attempt, this
time with one OK and one defective, which
will be replaced (room is lighted in 2
attempts). In third attempt we have the
room completely lighted. We can use 5C2 =
10 ways in total. However, some of these
use all defective bulbs – so remove them.
3C2 = 3. so 10-3 = 7 are the total ways of
lighting the room. answer.

Devide 69 in 3 parts that it is in AP
and product of the first 2 parts is
483?
 AP = arithmetic progression.
 AP is A, A+D, A+2D, A+3D . . . So on.
 Let us assume that the first term is A-D,
Second term is A, and 3rd term is A+D.
 Thus add them A-D++A+A+D, we get 69
 Or 3A = 69, a = 23.
 A-D * A = 483. 23-D *23 =483
 529 – 23D = 483, or 23D = 529 – 483
 D = 46 / 23 = 2. The series is 21,23,25 ans.

 4*10 = 40 square root of 40 is 6.3, which
is GM (geometric mean).
 ¼+1/10 = 14/40 * ½ = 14/80 or 80/14 is
