Causes of Alzheimer’s

The causes can not be fully explained by scientist.

Obvious causes can be explained by…


- genetics
- environment
- lifestyle factors
Causes by Genetics

“Early-Onset”
- Alzheimer’s develops while the patents is in their 30’s, 40’s, or 50’s
- Mainly caused by a mutation in one of the three genes a person inherits
from their parents
“Late-Onset”
- Alzheimer’s develops in the patent after they turn age 60
- This type of Alzheimer’s is linked with the gene APOE
About 40% of people who carry this specific form of the gene do
develop “late-onset” Alzheimer’s.
Causes by Life Styles and Environment

Alzheimer’s may develop faster in patents that


have…
 poor nutritional diet
 lack of physical activity
 lack of social activity
 lack of mental stimulating pursuits

Also chances are increased in patents that have…


 a heart disease
 experienced a stroke
 high blood pressure
 diabetes
 obesity problems

1. Memory loss that disrupts daily life

Treatments

Currently there is no cure or reversible treatment for


the disease, however medications are available that
may delay the onset of more severe symptoms. 
The class of drugs used to treat mild to moderate
Alzheimer’s disease is known as cholinesterase
inhibitors.
