AVERSION THERAPY FOR CURING HOMOSEXUALITY

Reaction:

In this case, the 3 principles of research ethics were violated. The principle
of Beneficence states that “above all, do no harm.” During the therapy, the
subject was injected drugs that caused him to be violently ill (such as
apomorphine – a potent vomit-inducing drug). There was no respect for human
dignity when another subject was forced to lie in a bed filled with his own vomit,
urine, and feces for 3 days while they would show him images of half-naked man,
inject him with drugs and play tapes telling him he was a “dirty queer”. This is
against the subject’s integrity. This is not a noble research study. There was
injustice in this aversion therapy because all it did was put the subject at risk. The
subject died upon receiving unfair treatment. Homosexuality must not be
considered a problem in the society as long as it causes no harm against other
people.
