EAST MEETS

Adelphi’s staging of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which ran
November 6–11, 2007 at the Herricks Community Center, looked to
the Far East for inspiration. The play’s director, Professor Brian Rose,
explored the “international, planetary nature of the story” with his in-
novative take on this timeless production.

“My set has Japanese influence. My music comes from India, Indonesia,
Thailand, and Africa,” said Professor Rose The aforementioned elements
served to enhance the actors’ performances, said Professor Rose. “There
is a giant screen that allows us to see through dimensions into the world
of immortals who fuel the story,” he said.
