What is the greenhouse effect?


• Read pg. 456, including figure 3.

also, including figure 6 at the bottom.
• Close your book when you have
finished reading both pages. Think

What causes the
greenhouse effect?

• It is caused by gases in the


atmosphere that trap thermal
energy (heat). The gases absorb
thermal energy and radiate it back
to Earth.
Which gases cause the
greenhouse effect?

• Nitrous oxide
