Dear Mr. White:

I am writing to follow-up the Ozark R-I School District's ("District's") previous letter to you regarding the District's International Baccalaureate Program ("IE Program"), Previously, you requested that the District provide a copy of a "feasibility study" conducted before the District adopted the IE Program. \\re have researched your request to determine whether such documents exist. We have determined that the District does not have a formal feasibility study. Rather, District officials spoke informally with other school districts offering the IE and, also, internally among each other within the High School. Further. please note that the IB does not require such a study.

However, although the District docs not have a feasibility study, it does have a "Strategic Implementation Plan," which was prepared in accordance with the IE Program requirements. I have enclosed a copy of the Strategic Implementation Plan for your review. As a courtesy, the District is not charging you for this document.

Thank you for your inquiry,

/'

Gordon T. Pace, Ed. D.

Superintendent

Overview

........•.... _ ... _-_._ .. -- .. "~-.-~~~~~----~~------------

Consideration phase

Form the school completes: School information form

Schools have visited the IB website or have received information a bout the IB a nd want to know more. They complete the School information form in order to inform the IB oftheir interest and to request additional information.

What does the school do before applying for candidacy?

Before application, the school conducts a feasi bil ity study in which it analyses th e I B philosop hy, prog ra mme structure an d req uirements, com pares its fi nd ings with th e situation of the school and defines what needs to be done in order to implement the programme. As a result the school will decide whether to apply to become an IB World SchooL

Normally, a school will take some or all of the following steps.

a. Identification of who will carry out the feasibility study. It is helpful to include in the group school experts in different academic areas, members of the school leadership team and the person(s) responsible for finance.

b. An a lysis of the I B mission statement and the I B learner profile in order to see whether the school's own phi iosophy is simi lar to that of the I B. This is the most important decision that the school has to make because it is related to the purpose of the school a nd its unique contrlb ution to educatio n.

c. Participation of the head of school or designee in an IB category 1 workshop to become familiar with the 18 programme and the authorization process. Schools are encouraged to participate in IB professional development activities as early as possible to ensu re that they make an informed decision regarding the future implementation of an I B prog ramme.

d. Analysis of the requirements related to the school entity.

e. Analysis of the structu re of the program me.

f. Purchase a nd study of the Diploma Programme starter pack and additional docu ments,

g. Analysis of the Programme standards and practices a nd specific progra m me req uirements.

h. Analysis of the com mitment that the I B requ ires from IB World 5chools to ensure that the programme will be sustainable in the long term.

i. Analysis of the situation of the school with rega rd to I B expectations.

j. If the school were to decide to imp lement the progra m me, definition of th e human, material and financial resources that would be committed in order to align the school with IB expectations and to sustain the programme in the long term.

k. Approximate ti me that the school wil [ need to a [ign with I B expectations.

I. Ana lysis of the be nefits that the im pi ementation of the program m e wi II bring to the schoo I and its community.

m. Final decision on whether to im plement the program me.

If it decides to implement the programme, a nd therefore start the authorization process, during this period the school identifies the person who will become the coordi nator of the programme, starts to gain su pport from its community, identifies resources and starts sending staff to IB-recognized professional development activities.
