The Examination Department Automation Software, a solution for the examination department,
has been designed to make the examination processes easier and paper free. It is designed under
the access authority level security to prevent misuse and mismanagement of legal and official
data by any unauthorized and UN wanted user to XIPEMS-1.05 software.
Scope
1. Course Management – Management of different courses provided by the university and
the different subjects under each course.
2. College Details Management – Details of colleges under the university are maintained
to enable the officials know about the college under the university.
3. Student Information Management - Student Information Management in which the
detailed information of the student is stored fro future lookup and also for the different
processes inside the university management .
4. Examination Management – Details of the examinations conducted , future
examinations, student roll sheets, student mark sheets, college result sheets, and
necessary certificates to be issued to students The operations in examination management
are as followsScreen Sharing:
Making all computer screens in the room show the same image, usually the instructor's
screen. Many management programs allow sharing of other screens as well, so if a
student has created something the instructor wants to show everyone, this can be
accomplished quickly. When screen sharing is disabled, all student computers return to
their previous screens.

Introduction:

Online Examination System is a software application which allows a particular company or

institute to arrange, conduct and manage any objective examination via online.

Purpose:

The purpose of this application is to conduct and process various types of certificate/non-
certificate exams at different centers across any country via online.

• Any institute or company can register their various types of certificate/non-certificate
programs and conduct an online examination for the same.
 • Just register the programs, their fees (if paid) and the centers (where the exam will be
conducted) in order to start the examination process.
• Questions and answers would be objective type and the format would be as per the
company’s choice.
• User can select the company, its program, exam schedule and pay fees online in order to
give his exam at the selected center.

limitations. The System purpose is to completely automate the old manual procedure of
conducting exam to On-Line Web Based Examination System.
On-Line Examination is web based application for technical evaluation. Using this On-Line
Exam system, we can conduct any type of objective type examinations on line. On end of the
exam, the result will be displayed.

On-line examinations can be conducted at any time and does not incur higher cost as traditional
exam scenario as there is no paper work involved.

The purpose of the system is to develop Online Examination System, used to test the Domain
knowledge of the students, and employees with respect to the particular technology. The manual
procedure used for conducting exam is time consuming process and error prone due to human

The on-line test simulator is to take online test in an efficient manner and no time wasting for
checking the paper. The main objective of on-line test simulator is to efficiently evaluate the
candidate thoroughly through a fully automated system that not only saves lot of time but also
gives fast results. For students they give papers according to their convenience and time and
there is no need of using extra thing like paper, pen etc.
SCOPE OF THIS PROJECT:
Scope of this project is very broad in terms of other manually taking exams.
Few of them are:-
O This can be used in educational institutions as well as in corporate world.
O Can be used anywhere any time as it is a web based application (user Location doesn’t
matter).
O No restriction that examiner has to be present when the candidate takes the test.

The online test created for taking online test has following stages

LOGIN:-
There is a quality login window because this is more secure than other login forms as in a normal
login window there are multiple logins available so that more than one person can access to test
with their individual login. But in this project there is only one login id i.e. administrator id and
password by which a person enter the site. Hence it is more secure and reliable than previously
used on-line test simulators.
TEST:-
Test page is the most creative and important page in this project. It consists of 2 modules
namely:
• Subject selection
• Utilities
Subject selection:-
From the given choices the candidate can select his field (like C, C++ and JAVA etc.) for taking
on with the test.
Utilities:-
It includes:-
ü Skip and come back to the question afterwards if needed.
ü Gives the list of attempted and unattempt questions and can go to any question directly and can
either attempt or change the answer of the already attempted question.

Examination Centres

The system is composed of the central Network Operating Centre (NOC) at the university

responsible for providing the managed services for conducting online, offline and mock
examinations. The operations performed at EDCs include, the receipt of applications from
students including payment of fee, attendance upload, the internal marks upload and
printing of hall tickets for the students. The major part of the operations at the exam centre
includes the receipt of question papers from the university just before the examination,
printing the question papers and conducting examination.

Evaluation Centres
All activities related to evaluation are conducted at pre-defined evaluation centres. The
tasks undertaken at the evaluation centres includes the assignment of dummy numbers to
the answer scripts, scanning of answer scripts, segregation of questions and answers and the
assignment of answer scripts for evaluation. The final activity is the upload of marks.

The Online Examination System is a web based application developed in MySQL and PHP. This
customised software has been developed for a leading Maritime Academy located in Goa, India
for all the courses conducted by them. This is run from an In–House Apache Webserver on their
internal network.
The examination consists of different types of multiple choice questions. The questions are
selected at random keeping the proper weightage for the various topics. The answers are
evaluated and the marks obtained for each along with the answer given by the student are stored
in the database.
The examiner can get the results immediately in various forms -- the general marklist, the
detailed general marklist where the marks obtained by the student in each topic of the subject is
shown (red underline for below passing marks) as well as the answer sheet of each student.
The trends graph show the graph of how many students have passed in each topic of a
particular subject (Topicwise comparison graph) as well as how many students have passed in
each subject (Subjectwise comparison graph). There is also the provision for a Trends graph of
comparing how many students have passed topicwise in each subject at the midterm as well as
final exams if there are two exams for the subject.
The software maintains the details for each student as well as provides a facility for editing the
student details if required. There is Password based access for Individual Answer Sheet,
General Mark Lists and Trends Graphs. Authentication is provided Via Sessions and the
password is stored in encrypted form (MD5 hash) in the database.

This is a project we made in ASP.NET. Its an examination system made in Visual Studio 2008
using a MySQL database. Please do take a look at it and suggest improvements. Also, if the
project is vulnerable to any security threats, please do ping us back.

Features-
User first needs to supply valid credentials to begin the test.
Randomly chooses 5 questions from a database of 10 questions.
The test is a timed test, admin can change the duration of the test before it begins in the code.
Test-taker can leave a question un-answered and come back to the question (if time permits)
using the ‘Previous’ and ‘Next’ Buttons.
Code Details-
1. Login is authenticated against a MySQL database.
2. AJAX is used for the timer, allowing only the timer label to postback to the server each
second.
3. Use of the Random class to generate 5 questions out of the 10 in the database.
4. Session Management using Cookies and Session Variables.
5. Use of javascript in the master-page to prevent the ‘Back’ navigation from a page (clearing the
cache) [Would love your suggestions on an alternative to this]
6. Once the 5 questions are chosen randomly, they are held in a DataTable. This is then held in a
Session Variable to hold the values during postbacks.

Project Description
This project uses MS-ACCESS database and .NET Framework 3.5. With this stand,
administrator user of online exam system creates trainees, trainers. Trainer user
create questions, Tests, Schedules, etc.
