being the topic again. Not good number of people amongst us would be interested in an insurance company or working in this field. 2. Most of the people gave the answers as the JVs which are operating in India like Bajaj Allianz for Allianz. Infact most of the indian companies in insurance sector have a different tagline associated with them. For example ICICI Prudential has the tagline "We cover you at every Step of life". So the answer for these question is the foreign parent only and not the Indian JV. 3. Four people scored 9 out of 9 in this quiz. They are Arun, Vaibhav, Praveen and Saritha. Cheers to them. 4. Metlife's India partners are J&K Bank, Karnataka Bank> and Dhanalakshmi Bank. 5. Allianz group has the JV with Bajaj group and is one of the big players in the insurance market in India. Its presence in UK is minimal. 8. In this insurance market, the leader is LIC with over 74% of the market share and the other 13 companies share the remaining 26% of the market. ICICI Prudential followed by Allianz Bajaj and HDFC Standard Life are the leaders among private life insurers 9. It touched the magical figure of 10000 hits. This feat has been achieved in less than a year's time to be precise in 345 days. Once again the work caught me up badly and I was not able to update the blog on this momentous occasion. It feels really great to have achieved this feat. One of the prime keywords which gave me the idea of making this blog was the keyword PUNCHLINES. Whenever I used to search for punchlines or taglines of various companies, I never used to land up on the right website. Moreover we never had any resource on the web which could give us a one stop shop for all quizzing needs on this topic. After touching the 10000 mark in terms of the hits on the website, I feel my blog has served this purpose. The blog started with a quiz on IT companies and has now matured into a very interesting quiz on various topics which have a close relevance to the business. Average number of

responses now stand at close to 31 per quiz which is pretty healthy number. The topics which my blog has covered till now are as follows: 1. IT 2. Pharma 3. Automobile 4. Petroleum and Energy 5. Airlines 6. Logo Quiz 7. Tourism 8. Stock Exchange 9. TV Ads 10. Popular Brands Logo 11. Media 12. Banks and Financial Institutions 13. Insurance Companies 14. Retail 15. Consumer Electronics 16. NGOs 17. Steel Industry

18. Movies 19. Dotcoms 20. Miscellaneous The way quizzing happens in this blog is something like this. A quiz is posted on a weekly basis. Answers are provided at the completion of the week. The answers are published together with the score card and ranking is given to the participants based on the number of correct entries, date and time of answer, the priority being in the order specified. After this trivia is presented about the various questions asked in the quiz. Hope the trend continues. Thanks for the support provided by one and all. # posted by Yashasvi Arun : 8:45 PM 0 comments Answers to Punchliners Quiz # 23 Here are the answers to Punchliners Quiz # 23 1. PASSION FOR EXCELLENCE - BRIDGESTONE 2. A better way forward - MICHELIN 3. Accelerate your soul - DUNLOP 4. Tyres with Muscle - MRF 5. Born Tough - CEAT ================ Trivia ================ 1. Shojiro Ishibashi (1889-1976) was the Founder of Bridgestone Corporation. At the time, when he started, British and American products were in high demand and he decided to capitalise on this international aspect. In fact, Bridgestone is a literal English translation of his last name "Ishibashi" which means "Stone Bridge". He liked the sound of it better when he reversed the words to Bridge Stone. 2. The story of Dunlop: Simple ideas can change the world. In 1888, while

watching his son ride a tricycle, John Boyd Dunlop noticed his discomfort whenever he rode over cobbled ground. He knew the tricycle's solid rubber tyres were to blame. The solution? He wrapped the wheels in thin rubber sheets, glued them together, inflated them with a football pump for a cushioning effect - and created the first commercially viable pneumatic tyre. Dunlop patented the idea, giving his fledgling Dunlop tyre company a head start over automotive competitors who had already recognised the tyre's many advantages. Ten years later, Dunlop's invention had almost entirely replaced solid tyres. 3. The oldest company of the RPG Enterprises, CEAT Tyres was established in 1958. Today, CEAT is one of India's leading tyre manufacturers, with an annual turnover of Rs 1,780 crores (US $400 million). Most of us are not aware of the fact that CEAT is actually an acronym which stands for Cavi Electrici Affini Torino. 4. MRF Story: A young entrepreneur, K. M. Mammen Mappillai, opened a small toy balloon manufacturing unit in a shed at Tiruvottiyur, Madras (now Chennai). Although the "factory" was just a small shed without any machines, a variety of products, ranging from balloons and latex-cast squeaking toys to industrial gloves and contraceptives, were produced. During this time, MRF established its first office at 334, Thambu Chetty Street, Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India. The logo of MRF Muscleman evolved in the year 1964. It also has an interesting story. One day, a truck driver at a roadside dhaba (makeshift eatery) somewhere in Western India hit upon the right idea when he said, "A goodtyre should have all the qualities of a pehalwan (strong man)." And from this simple statement, the muscleman was born. MRF stands for Madras Rubber Factory. 5. Michelin: The company's symbol is Bibendum, the Michelin Man, introduced in 1898 by French artist O'Galop (pseudonym of Marius Rossillon), and one of the world's oldest trademarks. Andre Michelin apparently commissioned the creation of this jolly, rotund figure after his brother, douard, observed that a display of stacked tires resembled a human form. Today, Bibendum is one of the world's most recognized trademarks, representing Michelin in over 150 countries.

2. Himalaya Healthcare 3. Idea Cellular 4. Food World 5. SANYO ============= TRIVIA ============= 1. Accenture originated as the consulting division of Arthur Anderson. Its origin goes back to 1953, when GE asked Arthur Andersen to undertake a feasibility study about payroll processing and manufacturing automation using computers. In 1989, that division split from Arthur Andersen and began using the name Andersen Consulting. On January 1, 2001, Andersen Consulting adopted its current name, "Accenture". The word "Accenture" is derived from "Accent on the future". Although a marketing consultancy was tasked with finding a new name for the company, the name "Accenture" was chosen by an employee from the Oslo office, as a result of an internal competition. Arthur Anderson was one of the member of Big 5 once upon a time until ENRON happened. The fiasco of ENRON was one of major turnarounds in the business of the accounting firms and this event actually led to the separation of Consulting business from the accounting business. Also Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 also came into force because of this financial breakdown. The greater-than sign over the 't' shows that the company is looking to the future. The mark is also an accent mark in music.Tiger Woods is the brand ambassador of the company. The campaign uses the phrase "Go On. Be a Tiger." as its advertisment baseline. Tagline for the company is High Performance. Delivered. 2. The story of Himalaya Healthcare starts close to 75 years back when Mr. M Manal founder of the company saw restless elephants being fed with a root to pacify them. This root got scientifically evaluated and turned out to be first hypertensive drug of the world by name Serpina. 3. Idea Cellular's antecedents date back to 1995, When the Aditya Birla

Group and AT&T and the Tata Group set up cellular networks. In the year 2000, the historic path-breaking merger of Tata Cellular with Birla AT&T Communications and the subsequent acquisition of RPG Cellular - (Madhya Pradesh circle) in the year 2001 - helped take the company to aim even further and led to the formation of Birla Tata AT&T Limited . In year 2001, company won fourth cellular license for Delhi metro circle and in year 2002 company introduced common brand " !dea" and changed the name to IDEA Cellular Limited 4. SANYO, which means "three oceans" - specifically, the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans - and symbolizes the company's global perspective, has a history rich in creating and delivering technology-based products to every corner of the globe. The SANYO Group of companies is truly an international organization, comprising 83 manufacturing companies, 37 sales companies, and 38 other companies. SANYO's first three products were the bicycle generator lamp, the plastic cabinet radio, and the whirlpool action washing machine. Sanyo started in the year 1947 with the name of Sanyo Electric Works. A whopping 79 entries were received for this quiz and the uniqueness in the quiz is also appreciated immensely. Thanks for the appreciation. For the first time ever, a quiz in the Punchliners series has got more than 50 responses. 25 entries were there with all correct answers. The Square Mile - LONDON 2. Land of Silver - ARGENTINA 3. Punjab + Afghan + Kashmir + Sindh + Baloochistan = PAKISTAN 4. Land of the thunder dragon - BHUTAN 5. Land of million Elephants - LAOS ======== TRIVIA ========= 1. The City of London is a small area in Greater London. The modern conurbation of London was developed from the city of London and the nearby city of westminster, which was the centre of the royal government. The City of London is now Europe's largest "central business district" (CBD) and financial district. It is often referred to as just the City

Argentina, meaning "land of silver," is a rich and vast landsecond largest (after Brazil) in South America and eighth largest in the world. Its heartland is a broad grassy plain known as the Pampas (pronounced PAHM-pahs). 3. The name "Pakistan" means "Land of the Pure" in Urdu and Persian. It was coined in 1933 by Choudhary Rahmat Ali, who published it in the pamphlet Now or Never as an acroym of the names of the "Muslim homelands" of western India P for Punjab, A for Afghania (the Afghan (Pashtun) areas in the Northwest Frontier Province), K for Kashmir, S for Sindh and tan for Balochistan. The i was later added to the name since in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, "istan" refers to "land of" while "pak" means pure. Officially, the nation was founded as the Dominion of Pakistan in 1947, and was renamed as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in 1957. 4. 'Bhutan' may be derived from the Sanskrit word 'Bhu-Uttan' which means 'High Land'. In another theory of sanskritisation, 'Bhots-ant' means 'end of Tibet' or 'south of Tibet'. However some Bhutanese call their country 'Druk Yul' and its inhabitants 'Drukpa'. The Dzongkha (and Tibetan) name for the country is 'Druk Yul' (Land of the Dragon). Because of the serenity and the virginity of the country and its landscapes, Bhutan today is sometimes referred to as the Last Shangri-La. Historically, Bhutan was known by many names, such as 'Lho Mon' (Southern Land of Darkness), 'Lho Tsendenjong' (Southern Land of the Sandalwood), 'Lhomen Khazhi' (Southern Land of Four Approaches), and 'Lho Men Jong' (Southern Land of Medicinal Herbs). It is often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area. 2. Argentina, meaning "land of silver," is a rich and vast landsecond largest (after Brazil) in South America and eighth largest in the world. Its

heartland is a broad grassy plain known as the Pampas (pronounced PAHM-pahs). In 1989, that division split from Arthur Andersen and

began using the name Andersen Consulting. 3. Idea Cellular's antecedents date back to 1995, When the Aditya Birla Group and AT&T and the Tata Group set up cellular networks. SANYO's first three products were the bicycle generator lamp, the plastic cabinet radio, and the

whirlpool action washing machine.
