Case 6: Reflection of Starbucks 10-K Assessment

The 2009 annual report of Starbucks Corporation confirmed that the company continued to grow, despite the challenges that the current economic turmoil has presented. In response to such instability, the company has risen to the occasion, creating new and innovative ways to not only increase profitability, but maintain a steady growth in customer satisfaction. I chose to research and discuss the annual report of Starbucks not only because I am a frequent customer, I also support their dedication and fulfillment of the ethical, local, and global responsibilities theyve remained committed to. They give back to the communities theyre located in, are ethical in the way they do business, both on the inside with vendors and employees, and on the outside with consumers; and participate in numerous green activities, helping the environment in many ways. The information provided in the referenced assessment paper was found on investor.starbucks.com. The list of annual reports ranged from 1996 to 2009. The most current report, 2009, was chosen, due to its relevance. Starbucks ethical, local, and global commitments were also discussed on their website. A list of programs and recognitions were displayed for consumers, creditors, and all concerned stakeholders. In the midst of a demanding economic situation, Starbucks has been able to show promising growth and improvement. Their resourceful assurance services provided insight to new types of progression, in addition to possible alarming tax issues. Additionally, the unqualified opinion produced

by Deloitte & Touche suggested superior accounting and auditing performances. Overall, Starbucks remained true to their success in 2009, and is on their way for a monumental 2010.
