History 1576-1588-Home of the estates-general After Louis, duc d'Orleans, was assasinated, his widow went to chateau de Blois.

It was inherited by her son Charles d'Orleans, who was later taken prisoner and spent 25 years in England as a hostage. Charles's son made this place the polit ical capital of this kingdom, his son was King Louis XII. At the begining of the 16th century, the king reconstructed the main block and c reated an Italian garden. In 1890, these gardens were replaced by a railroad cal led Avenue Victor Hugo. Joan of Arc was also blessed here in 1429 by the Archbishop of Reims before departing to rid Orleans of the English. This castle was not built with Blois to oversee it, but was actually added about 700 years after Blois was built.
