Auxiliary verbs

What are auxiliary verbs?

An auxiliary (also called helping verb) is a verb functioning to give further semantic or syntactic information about the main or full verb following it.

Some of the auxiliary verbs are:

should Used to

IS/AM/ARE
They are used in form of present tenses,or for universal truths or facts. Examples: She is singing. Are you coming? Jaipur is capital of Rajasthan.

Was/were
They are used in form of past/past continous tenses or in the form of the passive. Examples: He was writing a letter. They were not present in the class. He was bitten by a dog

Has/have/had
They are used in the form of perfect tenses Examples: I have finished my assignment. Only mam has the authority to speak in hindi. Tony had a air gun, he gifted it to me, I SHOT HIM.

Do/did/does
They are used in the form of simple tenses or to ask questions. Examples: I did not play the match. Do you have a pen? Doesnt he work here anymore?

Can/could
FOR PERMISSION: You can go out and play football. He told me that I could accompany him.

May/might
Used to ask permission or to express possibility Examples: may I leave now? We might also join you.

Will/would
Will is used for future tense. would is used as past tense of will. Example: It will rain today. Would you lend me 100 bucks.

Should/must
Should is used: To give advice- you should help the poor people. As the past equivalent of shallMust is used to express: Duty-you must inform your parents Obligation-I must improve my handwriting Necessity-we must get up early
