System Requirements
During requirements modeling, all system requirements must be identified and described. A system requirement is a characteristic or feature that must be included in an information system to satisfy business requirements and to be acceptable to users. System requirements serve as benchmarks to measure the overall acceptability of the finished system.
System requirements fall under five categories: outputs, inputs, process, performance, and control. The system requirements for a CATV Information system for billing and payments, and other operations are listed below. Outputs:
The Billing system must be able to provide the following: Collection Summary Disbursement Summary Income and Expenses Subscribers List Subscribers Count Subscriber Summary Generate Bills Inputs: New Subscribers Reconnection Disconnection Subscriber Complaints Post Monthly charges Received Payment Disbursements Processes: The billing and payment system must be able to calculate the monthly bills of subscribers which may include the current monthly subscription fee, previous arrears, surcharges and other fees due to subscriber for the month. Billing and payment system should produce automatically generated receipts at the time payments are recorded. Performance: The system must be implemented using client server architecture Bill must be generated in approximately 5 seconds per subscriber.
Payments must processed in not more than 2 minutes per subscriber The system must be able to cater to more than one workstation simultaneously. Billing and payment system must produce bills one week before the due date Billing and payment system must flag any customer account that is past due by more than one week. Control: The following data must be changed, added, edited and deleted by the General Manager only: Subscription Type Installation Mode Payment type Disbursement Type The following must be done by the Systems Administrator: Backup Database Restore Database Manage Users Change Passwords
SCALABILITY
Scalability refers to a systems ability to handle increased business volume and transactions in the future. Because it will have a longer useful life, a scalable system offers a better return on the initial investment. Based on the specified server capacity and specifications, this system should provide enough bandwidth and storage for an increase of at least 5 times the current number of subscribers . This system should be scalable enough to meet future need for several years to come and as the potential for adding more users, computers, and/or functions arise. (See proposed system specifications below.)
