SCSD Students Show Growth on Statewide Assessments
Students in the Syracuse City School
District made modest gains on the
2012 math and English Language
Arts state assessments. The New York
State Educaon Department released
results today that showed 24.2% of
students meeng or exceeding the
prociency standard in ELA and 26.9%
of students meeng or exceeding the
prociency standard in math.
While our growth is incremental
and not representave of our high
expectaons we are encouraged
by the results. Although there is
much work to be done, we are
headed in the right direcon, said
Superintendent Sharon L. Contreras.
I want to acknowledge our teachers
for their never ending focus on
improving student achievement and
our principals for their leadership
throughout this school year.
This years growth can be aributed
to a number of strategies designed to
strengthen instruconal techniques
and improve student achievement.
These strategies include the
Rapid Results projects that were
implemented in every school. Teachers
analyzed student data to idenfy and
focus on small groups of students.
They targeted instrucon to improve
the achievement of these students.
Other strategies included focused
professional development for teachers
and monthly leadership academies for
principals and instruconal coaches.
The SED has announced that the
2012-13 assessments will be more
challenging across all grade levels. In
preparaon, the Syracuse City School
District is developing comprehensive
math and ELA curricula aligned to the
common core state standards.

City Unveil Browneld Redevelopment
Plans for South Salina Street and Erie Boulevard East
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Secretary of State
Cesar A. Perales was joined Wednesday
by Syracuse Mayor, Stephanie Miner;
local o cials and city residents to
unveil Browneld Redevelopment
Plans for the areas of South Salina
Street and Erie Boulevard East.
The Department of State awarded the
City of Syracuse a $500,000 Browneld
Opportunity Area (BOA) grant to
create redevelopment plans for two
City neighborhoods characterized by
brownelds and vacant properes: the
South Salina Street Gateway and Erie
Boulevard East. The redevelopment
plans were developed with leadership
and input from the community and
consist of in-depth assessments,
and analyses of the best potenal
redevelopment of the neighborhoods.
These plans will enable Syracuse
to implement an economic and
environmental revitalizaon strategy
for these areas.
The creaon of mixed-use
commercial and residenal
development on brownelds and
on vacant or underulized property
has the potenal for transformave
redevelopment of Syracuse
neighborhoods, said New York
Secretary of State Cesar A. Perales.
The planning and implementaon
for the redevelopment of these areas
requires strong leadership, public
support and a clear and realisc vision
for the future of the City. I commend
Syracuse for ensuring that this vision
becomes a reality
Our recent compleon of the Erie
Boulevard East and South Salina Street
Browneld Redevelopment Plans is
an excing milestone in the Citys
Browneld Opportunity Area (BOA
Program, said Mayor of Syracuse
Stephanie Miner. We appreciate the
support and experse the New York
Department of State has provided
and we look forward to connue our
strong partnership as we implement
the recommendaon of the BOA
Redevelopment Plans.
The South Salina Street Revitalizaon
Plan calls for the creaon of an urban
core consisng of commercial and
residenal mixed-use development,
including retail and service shops,
and a possible expansion of public
park space. Mayor Minor says the
plan presents opportunies for job
creaon, improved urban design, and
long-term area-wide revitalizaon.
The Erie Boulevard East Neighborhood
Revitalizaon Plan calls for the
redevelopment of the 478-acre
area into a center of commercial,
residenal, and industrial mixed-use
development. Reuse of brownelds
adjacent to the successful mixed-use
properes and operaons will serve
as a catalyc development for this
community, Mayor Minor noted.

By a 45 percent to 28 percent margin,
voters in New York said they agree with
the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision
to uphold the constuonality of the
federal Aordable Care Act, a poll
conducted Tuesday found.
The Siena College poll found that 53
percent of New Yorkers want to see
the law fully implemented and 37
percent want it repealed.
More Democrats than Republicans
supported the law and its
implementaon.
Sll, only one in ve voters thought the
law will increase health care access,
and only one in eight thought it will
reduce their health care costs, the poll
said.
Overall, a plurality of New Yorkers
agree with the Supreme Courts
decision that Obamacare is
constuonal and a majority want to
now see the law fully implemented
rather than repealed, Siena pollster
Steven Greenberg said in a statement.
President Obama had a 59 percent to
38 percent favorability rang, which
was unchanged from a Siena poll last
month.
He had a 27 percentage point lead over
Republican presidenal candidate Mi
Romney in New York, where enrolled
Democrats outnumber those enrolled
as Republicans by a 2-to-1 margin.
The poll also showed connued
popularity for Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
He had a 69 percent to 22 percent
favorability rang.
The Democrac governors support
from the public carried over to the
state Legislature, the poll found.
The Democrac-led Assembly was
viewed favorably by 42 percent of
voters and unfavorably by 45 percent.
The GOP-led Senate had a 43 percent
to 48 percent favorability rang.
The Legislature is more popular than
Congress:
It had a 27 percent to 67 percent
favorability rang, the poll said.
For the seventh straight month, the
poll showed that a majority of New
Yorkers believed the state is on the
right track, by a 53 percent to 36
percent margin.
For the race for U.S. Senate,
Democrac Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand had
a 62 percent to 25 percent lead over
Republican candidate Wendy Long.
New Yorkers Support Health Care Act, Poll Says
Obama Remains Strong in State, Survey Finds
New Yorkers Support
Affordable Care Act
Repealing Law Wont Be Easy
Repealing Obamas Health Care Law Wont Be Easy
By ANDREW TAYLOR
WASHINGTON (AP) - Yes, if Mi
Romney wins the White House and his
Republican allies retake the Senate, he
could shred most of President Barack
Obamas health care law without
having to overpower a Democrac
libuster.
But it wont be as easy as some
Republicans portend, and it certainly
wont be quick.
Why?
Because any realisc eort to repeal
the Aordable Care Act - as opposed
to last weeks quixoc vote in the
GOP-controlled House - is sure to get
jumbled together with lots of other
issues, including Medicare, taxes, food
stamps and defense spending.
And thats because Republicans have
to rst pass a budget. Its the only way
than can invoke special Senate rules
that allow legislaon to pass with just
a simple majority vote - instead of the
60 votes needed in the 100-member
Senate to beat a libuster.
Passing a budget requires answering
a ra of quesons unrelated to the
relavely simple idea of repealing
Obamacare. How much to cut
the decit? Should Medicare be
overhauled and Medicaid bear sharp
cuts? Is it realisc to sharply boost
defense programs, as Romney would
like, in such an atmosphere?
The rst step is to pass a budget
resoluon - a nonbinding, broad-brush
outline of budget goals like cu ng or
increasing taxes, or slowing increases
in Medicare. A budget resoluon sets
the terms for follow-up legislaon
thats called a reconciliaon bill in
Washington argot.
Two years ago, Democrats used a
reconciliaon bill to nalize the health
care law with a 56-43, party-line vote
in the Senate.
Republicans have a problem in that
theres a lot more on their agenda than
just repealing the health care law, and
its all going to have to be crammed
into a budget resoluon and follow-up
reconciliaon bill, too.
Theyre going to want to use that
budget resoluon to set up a tax bill,
theyre going to want to do other
decit reducon, said Hazen Marshall,
a GOP lobbyist and the Senate Budget
Commiees top aide in 2001 and
2003 when reconciliaon bills were
used to push former President George
W. Bushs tax cuts through Congress.
So I would think its just going to
take some me to get everybody
on the same page as to what the
budget resoluons going to look like,
Marshall said.
In 2001, when Republicans set about
the relavely simple task of cu ng
taxes in an era of unprecedented
budget surpluses, it took them unl
Memorial Day to pass the legislaon.
What Republicans would confront next
year is far more di cult - wrenching
cuts to programs popular with voters.
A more apt comparison might be the
GOPs budget eorts of 1995, when
it took the party unl November to
complete acon on its budget plan.
Its not that its not doable. It absolutely
is doable, said a senior House GOP
budget aide. Its just going to take a
lot longer than everybody wants it to.
And people arent ancipang the pain
of each step to get to that point. The
aide spoke on condion of anonymity
because he wasnt authorized to speak
on the record.
Republicans currently hold 47 Senate
seats. If they take control of the
Senate, its not likely to be by more
than 1 to 4 votes, well short of 60. That
would put lots of leverage in the hands
of Senate GOP moderates like Susan
Collins of Maine and Sco Brown of
Massachuses, should he win his
di cult re-elecon bid.
Both Collins and Brown cast votes
earlier this year against the House
GOP budget plan, authored by Rep.
Paul Ryan, R-Wis. At the center of
Ryans plan was controversial overhaul
of Medicare that would transform it
into a voucher-like program for those
who rere in 10 years. Also vong
against Ryans plan was Rep. Denny
Rehberg, R-Mont., who Republicans
are counng on to win a Senate seat
this fall as a building block to a GOP
majority.
Keith Hennessey, a former GOP Senate
and White House o cial, says that
if Republicans follow past pracce,
theyll try to forge a center-right
agreement that includes spending
cuts but no tax increases. But he
noted that the willingness of some
Republicans to embrace tax increases
could complicate maers.
You look at the Republicans and
you see that theres going to be a
spectrum on how deep theyre going
to be willing to cut various things, said
Hennessey, currently a research fellow
at the Hoover Instuon at Stanford
University. The queson is just how
far toward the Ryan plan can you get
the moderate Republicans.
On the other hand, combining the

repeal of Obamas health care law
with other GOP priories like curbing
the decit gives lawmakers who are
not part of the leadership plenty of
incenve to vote for the package.
When elecons are about certain
policies and are dened on that,
youve got momentum to do those
things, said House GOP Whip Kevin
McCarthy of California.
A simple-majority reconciliaon
bill could certainly cover the health
care laws tax increases - including
the penales used to enforce the
individual mandate to buy insurance -
and subsidies for insurance premiums.
Republicans, however, could not use
the libuster-proof budget process
to repeal provisions in the health
care that dont have a direct impact
on the governments balance sheet.
For example, it sll would likely
take 60 Senate votes to repeal the
laws requirement that insurance
companies cover people with pre-
exisng condions.
Experts say leaving the insurance
reforms intact on their own is
economically unsustainable because
the rao of sick to healthy people in
the plans would be out of balance.
If you were to remove everything
else in reconciliaon and be le
with the insurance provisions, you
have something that everybody
recognizes is unworkable, said former
Congressional Budget O ce Director
Douglas Holtz-Eakin. I think if you
take enough out, the rest probably has
to go.

Mandelas Birthday Clouded by Leaked Email From Winnie to ANC
Special to the Trice Edney News Wire
from GIN
(TriceEdneyWire.com) As
preparaons get underway for the
July 18th, 94th birthday of former
president Nelson Mandela, hurt and
angry feelings were expressed by
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela who
claimed shabby treatment by the
ruling ANC party.
The Mail & Guardian newspaper
reported that Mrs. Madikizela-
Mandela accused the ANC of
disrespecng the Mandela family
and of never having any interest in
celebrang Tatas (Mandelas) birthday
except to gate crash on the familys
arrangements.
President Jacob Zuma is expected
to deliver a lecture on Mr. Mandela
on Tuesday at the ANC centenary
commemoraons in Limpopo
province. Winnie has reportedly
rejected an invitaon to aend.
No one has cared to establish how
we are doing as a family. It is quite
clear that we do not maer at all, we
only do when we have to be used for
some agenda, she was quoted to say
in an email purportedly sent to ANC
spokesperson Jackson Mthembu.
Further, she complained, neither Zuma
nor spokesperson Mthembu visited
her when she was in hospital, let
alone called her to wish her a speedy
recovery.
The email was sent to the Guardian by
a dissident facon of the ANC. Neither
the party nor Madikizela-Mandelas
o ce denied its authencity, though it
could not be independently conrmed.
The 75-year-old, regarded as the
Mother of the Naon by her
supporters, is known to be at odds
with President Zuma, and has publicly
called for a change of leadership.
Meanwhile, Mandelas grandson
Luvuyo Mandela said that he and his
family will hand out blankets and plant
trees on July 18, which was declared
Mandela Day in 2009. People around
the world are encouraged to devote
some me to community service in his
honor on the day. A birthday video has
been released by his o ce and can be

The Streets of Syracuse: What Makes Them Unique?
What are some
of the most
popular streets
in Syracuse?
What makes
them unique?
What created
their character, or
makes them stand
out?
If you have lived in
Syracuse for any
length of me,
you know by now that the popular streets
in the Cuse include James, Burnet, South
Ave, South Salina, Geddes, Fayee and
Genesee.
There are others, of course, both within
and outside the connes of the city
proper that have aained a certain
degree of prominence for one reason or
the other.
Menon any of these streets and most
city residents know what side of town
they are, the kind of people likely to
live or do business there, and its role in
the citys social, polical and economic
life. In spite of the changes that have
occurred over the years in the form of
new buildings, and empty lots as a result
of demolion, most of the streets retain
their unique character and their major
disnguishing features.
Not only have they emerged as the
main thoroughfares in their residenal
areas and neighborhoods, for both
vehicular and foot tra c; some have
become centers of commerce, with
modern super-sized grocery stores and
other merchandizing outlets where you
can shop for everything ranging from
automobiles in the case of West Genesee
which has a secon of it oen referred to
as Automobile Row to groceries on the
east end of the same street at the upscale
Wegmans in Dewi.
Others like the Strathmore secon of
James Street boast grand mansions,
stately homes, manicured lawns, and long
driveways, providing evidence of what
was once an exclusive neighborhood
where the privileged and moneyed class
could aord to live.
To what degree do the streets of
Syracuse dene the neighborhoods or
do they indeed have any impact on the
neighborhoods and residenal areas they
traverse? Have the streets of Syracuse
had any discernible eect on the African-
American community over the years?
I believe they do and in ways that bear
a direct relaonship to the changes that
have taken place over the years that
make the city of Syracuse what it is today.
In many cies over the country, there
are certain areas and streets that have
evolved over the years to form disnct
ethnic enclaves. The Chinatowns of
America in such cies as San Francisco,
New York and other metropolitan areas
come to mind; they are classic examples
of how streets can play a major role in
creang ethnic neighborhoods which in
turn become known for being special in a
way that has no parallel elsewhere.
This is what happened in New York City
when the lower secon of Manhaan
emerged and became known as
Chinatown and was viewed as unique
in ways that made it a favorite tourist
aracon for people from all over the
world. Benets to be gained from such
ethnic enclaves are many and varied,
mostly economic, social and polical.
Businesses get started to cater to the
special needs of the neighborhood
residents.
Housing ownership by neighborhood
residents increases and polical power
soon passes down to the neighborhood
residents when they become aware of the
advantage of numbers in the American
polical system.
Syracuse has no such neighborhoods that
can be characterized as ethnic enclaves;
at least not yet. But it cant be ruled
out. The potenal exists here in this city
as anywhere else. Considering current
trends, the North Side seems to me to
be one area that has seen change on a
scale so expansive as to make it possible
for a certain secon of it to emerge as a
disnct ethnic enty.
On the North Side, the inux of
immigrants from all parts of the world,
the new ethnic businesses and the
overall change that is occurring to the
neighborhood has made it unlike any
other Syracuse neighborhood in terms of
its ethnic mix and the pace of change.
It is not altogether impossible that one
secon of it will aract enough numbers
of one ethnic group to become an enclave
of its own.
The other day I bought Jamaican avored
curry chicken from a newly opened
restaurant on Pond and Park, had my
car checked out at an automobile repair
place down the street, bought some
ethnic food ingredients from another
store a few blocks away on North Salina
and shopped for clothes in a nearby store.
Years ago, we had to make special trips to
New York City to do that kind of shopping.
Thats what I call change and to a great
extent, progress.
Whether it is sustainable is another
queson. I see no reason to conclude
otherwise. At least, thats the way I see
it. Others may see it dierently, but its all
good, no maer how you want to look at
it.

Its in Their Nature!
(TriceEdneyWire.
com) As I reect
on my upbringing,
Im grateful for
the old stories
told in my youth.
Most oen they
were rooted in
values that taught
signicant life
lessons. Faced with
real situaons, the
lessons prevented
me from stepping
into obvious
trouble.
Many of my friends have similar old
stories. My friend, Steve Blakely, said
he remembers being told the story of
a beaver and ralesnake who were
aempng to escape a raging forest re.
They met as they both paused at a river
bank. Because of the swi water and
the fact that the beaver was a strong
swimmer, the ralesnake asked him for a
ride to the other side. The beaver refused
saying, If I give you a ride, youll bite me
as I swim across and I will surely die.
The ralesnake begged saying, What
sense would it make for me to bite you?
If you die, Ill surely perish as well. The
beaver reluctantly agreed as the raging
ames moved closer. Midway across the
river the ralesnake bit the beaver. As
he died the beaver gasped, Why? The
ralesnake replied, I guess its just in my
nature.
As we plunge into the 2012 polical
campaign and I begin to evaluate
candidates, I must ask myself, Whats in
their nature? Since I never vote against
my or my communitys greatest interests,
this answer is essenal. The dierences
in this elecon are su ciently clear for
me to make good choices.
As I evaluate the facts, I wont choose
candidates based on single issues or legal
decisions that others make. Whether
healthcare, same-sex marriage, public
educaon, aboron or any of many social
issues that challenge us, I recognize
that I will not agree with any candidate
100% on all issues. Ill select a candidate
with whom Im moreclosely aligned
philosophically and whose acons best
represent my and my communitys
interests.
As I evaluate the facts, I choose
candidates based upon the tradions
and track-record of their party and/or
upon their results in public o ce. Do
their plans comport with past successes
in governance? Do their words and
acons comport with my interests? Have
they demonstrated this in past decision-
making?
As stated, the choices in the coming
elecon are quite clear. Ill vote for
President Obama and support legislators
who will support the Presidents goals.
In my opinion, his goals provide greater
security and prosperity for the greatest
number of Americans.
Occasionally someone tries to convince
us that President Obamas turn is over
and we should support a fresh approach
and new President. I tell anyone who tries
this tact with me that if President Obama
had been given the opportunity to
govern with the thoughul cooperaon
and bi-parsanship exisng between
past Administraons and Congress or
allowed to succeed or fail on the merits
of his proposals, that debate be might
be possible. Had segments of the media
or Republican policians given President
Obama the same type of respect given
past presidents or the respect given to
the o ce he holds, we could discuss the
merits of an opposing posion.
Unfortunately, from day one of
his presidency and throughout his
administraon, Republicans have
singularly dedicated themselves to the
overthrow of the President. Whether
originang on the Democrac or
Republican side of the polical fence,
any idea embraced by President Obama
has been given an unceremonious NO!
in reply. Whether good for cizens or
the naon, any proposal advanced by
President Obama has been met with
great resistance. From healthcare to jobs,
its been the nature of Republicans to say
NO at every opportunity.
So, unlike the beaver, when asked to
consider a ride to those in opposion to
the interests I hold dear, I say NO to
theRepublican nature.

Understanding the Vast Collusion of Obsnacy Against Obama
Obama haters
keep pulling new
rabbits out of
their hats. Its
not whether Mi
Romney would
make a good
vote against him.
Would he even
make a good
p r o t e s t - v o t e ?
The childish thing
about the GOP is
they always favor
people they like
over people they respect. Some elements
of the black Church are now heading in
the same direcon. Are they becoming
the new neocons?
Right now a lot of conservaves and
so-called Tea Party are heaping venom
against Chief Supreme Court Jusce John
Roberts over his decisive vote against
what essenally would have abolished
Universal Healthcare. The growing
opinion is he changed his vote at the last
minute--all he did was stay in line with
Congressional powers to raise taxes.
Others are calling it Chicago polics.
Roberts knows these conservaves failed
to end Obamacare as promised aer
the 2010 midterms. Truth be told the
GOP knows the Aordable Health Care
Act is wrien too well for most of them to
even understand it, let alone know how
to abolish it. So why prolong their agony?
A few months ago saw the Dow
Industrials over 13,000 for the rst me
since 08. General Motors has record
prots aer almost going bankrupt ($7.6
billion last spring) and even they admit
it would have been tough to do that
without Obama. One GM exec said you
could have wrien-o this company,
this industry and this country without
Obamas bailouts; unemployment is at a
four-year-low.
Deep down inside would Romney really
have it in him to destroy something he
started in Massachuses? Ive said before
that to take down a naonal-version of
his own bill just to make some spiteful
fellow whites happy would make him a
prey worthless and gutless individual.
Wouldnt it? Speaking of which, much
has been said about Obamas family and
people the right have spent overme
to connect to the Obamas. Lile talk is
going around on the electronic airwaves
regarding the history of the Romneys. No
one menons Mis 2 great grandfathers,
both polygamous Mormons. You have
Parley Pra with his 12 wives, or Miles
Park Romney and his 5 wives, take
your pick. Does he know which great
grandmother is his? Show us some birth
cercates, lots of them.
Those women back then must have worn
Fruit of the Womb underwear. With
conservaves theres always a thin line
between reality and sare. When the
Church of Laer Day Saints outlawed the
un-saintly act of mulple wives, Miles
didnt just skip town, he skipped country.
With the aid of the Church on the DL
the Romneys ed to Mexico and hung
around unl the Mexican Revoluon, and
returned when the war ended. To this
day there are a lot of Romneys in Mexico.
Mis dad George was reported to have
lived there unl he was ve-years-old.
They came back to the states and moved
to Michigan, where he eventually became
Governor, and even ran for President in
1968. Nothing of memory was made of
his being born outside of the US during
his campaign.
Back in the hood, those Reverends and
Pastors who talk of deserng Obama this
fall because of his Gay Marriage approval,
even taking in consideraon of our
cultural and religious objecons to that
lifestyle, these Ministers had beer tread
very lightly on that subject for 4 reasons:
1-Black Ministers have for years been
doing a poor job of presenng as posive
a view of the black tradional family due
to the excessive adultery, fornicaon,
and even some child molestaon within
their own congregaons. Obviously this
doesnt apply to all the Churches, but just
enough to cast doubt on most of them.
2-Many Black Churches already have a
very narrow perspecve on life due to
their refusal to get involved with actually
saving people, especially young blacks
outside their Church, as opposed to just
declaring some of their members to be
saved. 3-It is impossible anyway for any
Church to link itself to European-style
Chrisanity without being unscathed
by its Euro-sexually-deviant history
and tradions. 4-This is the biggie:
Connued railing against and alienang
in their Church along with the pey-
venng many of these Ministers did over
approval by the President will soon make
the Gay members weigh their big-name
Pastors and Preachers on a scale against
the President.
When this happens Rev. Hawg Maws,
Rev. Fried Chicken, and Rev. Curl Acvator
will nd themselves on the losing-end of
this scale, resulng in a mass-walkout i.e.
Boyco of the Black Church, led by none
other than the piano playing-boys, choir
boys, alter-boys, orange-juice-pouring-
boys, Gay and Lesbian members of the
choirs and members in general. This
could result in an economic downturn
of the black communitys most powerful
business; Church. Just imagine, a third
of your heavenly ock, gone. Its almost
biblical in proporon--Just food for
thought fellas.
To be fair, Obamas crics arent all racists
or an-Gay black Church proponents.
In fact most can be broken down into 3
classicaons; 1-Racists (now spending
a lot of me verbalizing how theyre not
racists, while making racist statements),
2-Gullible (the Joe-Six-Packs who rarely
understand anything), 3-Blacks who
drank the conservave talk-radio and/
or Tavis Smiley Kool Aid while sll asking
whats he done for us?
Its not that Obama hasnt been busy;
his approval of Gay Marriage prey
much clinched the LGBT vote, and the
S&M Bill (Spaniards and Mexicans, i.e.
immigraon reform). Im sll wondering
when he will pay aenon to my vote;
the straight, regular, tradional, black
male, black family (SRTBMBF) bill. This
may sound funny but its no laughing
maer. A naonal an-racial proling law
right about now would be right on me.
The climate is now.

Pastor Accused of Having Relaons
with a 12-Year Old Girl in His Congregaon
Gordon Solomon,
a pastor at Christs
Community Church
in Los Angeles,
shocked his
congregaon this
week. The pastor
was arrested for
having a highly
inappropriate two-
year relaonship
with a 14-year old
girl. The two had
been exchanging
text messages of
a sexual nature for the past two years,
starng when the girl was just 12-years
old.
Solomon, a 50-year old man, allegedly
met with the girl at various locaons,
according to the Los Angeles Sheris
Department. The girls mother found one
of the messages and called police. Police
were then able to trace the pastors phone
to determine that the conversaons had
been occurring for the past two years.
Pastor Solomon has been charged with
seven felony counts of commi ng a lewd
act on a child, one felony count of oral
copulaon of a person under the age of
14, and one felony count of sexual abuse,
according to the District Aorney. If
convicted, Solomon faces up to 26 years
in prison. He is currently being held on
$3 million bail.
Solomon is a married man and on the
churchs website, he is posing with his
wife. The church says that its goal is to
increase awareness of Almighty God and
spread the word that Jesus saves. Police
say they have reason to believe that this
lile girl is not the only vicm of Pastor
Solomons behavior, there may be others
with whom hes interacted.
The church is a great place to nd some
of the most evil human beings known to
man. Hiding under the cloak of the bible,
some have been raised to quote bible
verses like robots while commi ng some
of the most heinous acts imaginable.
Whats interesng to me is that most of
us know at least one person who behaves
this way, with most of us knowing quite a
few. In fact, the biggest liar Ive ever met
in my life just happens to be the pastor
of a church.
Pastor Solomon does not reect the
essence of the black church or the
millions of people who are in it, but wed
be incorrect to state that such men and
women arent all around us. The moral
of the story is to be careful about those
with whom you trust your children, and
to realize that connecng to the body
of Christ is far deeper than recing a
bunch of bible verses and asking for
forgiveness every me you hurt another
human being. Theres no point in seeking
spiritual enlightenment if you choose to
live your life in the darkness of blatant
hypocrisy.
