KIM VANN

Kim Vann hypocritically claims that the federal government needs to rein in spending, except when it comes to local pork and her own family farm, which has received over $1.2 million in federal farm subsidies since 1995. Additionally, Vann wants to tier future Social Security and Medicare benefits.

Federal Spending Hypocrisy

VANN CRITICIZED FEDERAL SPENDING
Vann: Weve Got To Rein In The Spending. According to a YouTube video of the Dixon Chamber of Commerce congressional candidate forum, Vann said, We have a national debt and spending that is out of control. Weve got to rein in the spending and get things to replace so that we can grow the economy. [YouTube, Candidate Forum 4-11-12 Dixon, Ca, 4/12/12] Vann: We Need To Get Spending Under Control And Eliminate The Washington Culture Where Chronic Waste Is Not Just AcceptableIts The Norm. According to the Williams Pioneer Review, Vann said, Thats the problem with too much of Washington right now; theyre looking for the easy way out, not for real solutions. Printing more money and going deeper into debt just puts off the crisis to another day, to another generation. We need to get spending under control and eliminate the Washington culture where chronic waste is not just acceptable its the norm. [Williams Pioneer Review, 9/8/11] Vann Claimed The Government Created This System Of Entitlements Where People Feel Like They No Longer Have To Work For Anything. According to a Kim Vann for Congress YouTube video, Vann said, You know, when I watch the news, I get this sense that everyone has an entitlement. Were in this spot where the government has created, our government has created, this system of entitlements where people feel like they no longer have to work for anything. That things are given, and its expected to be given. You know, the effect of an entitlement is people give up. When you feel like you dont have to work for something, why would you ever put that much effort into working for something? [YouTube, Kim Vann For Congress, 2/10/12] Vann Said Entitlement Programs Have To Be Addressed. According to a YouTube video of the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce congressional candidate forum, Vann said, Entitlement programs have to be addressed. Medicare programs cannot be taken away from the seniors. We need to keep the promises that we made to the people who are using it, and to our most vulnerable population. But we can start looking at a tiered approach to address it. It doesnt have to addressed in

one foul swoop, but it can be looked at in tiers. [YouTube, Congressional Candidate Forum CD 3, 4/21/12]

VANN SUPPORTED SOME FEDERAL SPENDING

Vann Wanted To Bring Colusa County Libraries Into Compliance With The Americans With Disabilities Act In Order To Obtain Federal Funds. According to the Colusa County SunHerald, Colusa County officials have committed up to $50,000 to bring the Arbuckle and Williams libraries into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The commitment is the only way to cash in on two smaller U.S. Department of Agriculture community facilities grants that could help the county make necessary improvements, library officials said. Among the problems faced at the Arbuckle branch is a leaky roof and restrooms that cannot be accessed by people with certain disabilities. As long as we continue to have ADA issues, we will never be able to go after federal money, said Supervisor Kim Dolbow-Vann, who represents the Arbuckle area. [Colusa County Sun-Herald, 7/5/11] Vann Called The Defense Sequestration Spending Cuts Completely Irresponsible. According to a YouTube video of the Dixon Chamber of Commerce congressional candidate forum, Vann said, What do you think the message that was sent to our enemies overseas was, when the sequestration was used as a political football?... Putting our military personnel and Beadle and Travis in shackles because the members of Congress cant pass a budget without using this political football is completely irresponsible and should not be tolerated. I absolutely agree with what Mr. Tubbs and Mr. Ray said, there is waste to fix this, and it has be addressed immediately, not continue to send this message to our enemies abroad. This cannot be tolerated. [YouTube, Candidate Forum 4-11-12 Dixon, Ca, 4/12/12] Vann: Obamacare Raided Medicare. According to a YouTube video of the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce congressional candidate forum, Vann said, Obamacare raided Medicare. It took $500 billion from the current Medicare system without addressing how we backfill that today. [YouTube, Congressional Candidate Forum CD 3, 4/21/12]

Entitlement Cuts
Vann Wanted To Take A Tiered Approach To Reforming Entitlements. It doesnt have to addressed in one foul swoop, but it can be looked at in tiers. [YouTube, Congressional Candidate Forum CD 3, 4/21/12] Vann Said She Supported Tiering The Social Security System. According to a YouTube video of the Dixon Chamber of Commerce congressional candidate forum, Vann said, [Social Security is] something that needs to be addressed now. We could address it in a tier system the same as we can in Medicare, stepping down the way funds are taken in and benefits are paid out so that our current seniors who are on it are not harmed. What we can do is start tiering it down. [YouTube, Candidate Forum 4-11-12 Dixon, Ca, 4/12/12] Vann Praised The Ryan Budget For Not Taking Money From Medicare. According to a YouTube video of the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce congressional candidate forum, Vann said, The only piece of legislation that has been passed in this country that has taken money out of Medicare has been Obamacare. The Republican budget does not take $500 billion out of it. [YouTube, Congressional Candidate Forum CD 3, 4/21/12] The Ryan Budget Included The Same Medicare Savings As The Affordable Care Act. According to Business Week, Republicans, including House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, have been critical of Democrats for cutting $500 billion from the program over a decade as part of their health-care overhaul. Still, the House Republican budget written by Ryan retains the cuts. [Business Week, 3/29/12]
