Keeping Standards up-to-date

Australian Standards are living documents that reflect progress in science, technology and systems. To maintain their currency, all Standards are periodically reviewed, and new editions are published. Between editions, amendments may be issued. Standards may also be withdrawn. It is important that readers assure themselves they are using a current Standard, which should include any amendments that may have been published since the Standard was published. Detailed information about Australian Standards, drafts, amendments and new projects can be found by visiting www.standards.org.au Standards Australia welcomes suggestions for improvements, and encourages readers to notify us immediately of any apparent inaccuracies or ambiguities. Contact us via email at mail@standards.org.au, or write to Standards Australia, GPO Box 476, Sydney, NSW 2001.

PREFACE
This document was prepared by Standards Australia Committee IT-014, Health Informatics. The mission of Committee IT-014, Health Informatics is to recommend for adoption by Standards Australia, standards and related materials within the domain of e-health that are demonstrably required in the Australian health sector, and, implementable, maintainable and fit for purpose. A task in the Committee IT-014, Health Informatics work program for 20062007 has been to identify requirements for health informatics standards in enterprise-wide patient administration systems. As hospitals move from hospital-based patient administration systems to the deployment of area and enterprise-wide patient administration systems, new needs for standards will emerge. The purpose of this Miscellaneous Publication is to identify these standardization opportunities. Standards Australia wishes to thank the Department of Health and Ageing for their continued financial support in helping us to develop this Miscellaneous Publication.

Standards Australia Committee IT-014, Health Informatics distributed a survey to all Australian state health departments. The survey asked the following questions: If your jurisdiction has implemented, or is planning to implement, an enterprise-wide patient administration system, what health informatics standards or guidelines do you use for this system? What other standards are required for the successful deployment of enterprise-wide patient administration systems? What path should future standards development in enterprise-wide patient administration systems take? What are the areas of high priority?

This Miscellaneous Publication presents the state health departments feedback from this survey. 3 REFERENCED AND RELATED DOCUMENTS 3.1 Referenced documents AS 48462006 50172006 Health Care Provider Identification Health Care Client Identification security
