VIETNAM INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT

(Program 322)

1. Introduction

Vietnam International Education Development (VIED) is a government program which purpose is to grant scholarships to eligible students (for PhD or Master programs) who will study in Vietnam or abroad. 700 candidates to PhD programs have been selected for the academic year 2009-2010.

2. Eligible candidates profiles Teachers / Professors working in universities, institutes or colleges Regular staffs working in governmental organizations (e.g. departments, Peoples Committee, etc.) Excellent new graduates from universities recently hired by universities, institutes or colleges

3. Condition and requirements 3.1. General requirements:

Candidates must have the required background for their desired program Candidates must be in good physical condition Candidates must pledge to return to their organization after finishing their program

Candidates must receive the approval of their organization Specific requirements for PhD candidates

Candidates must be working in government organizations Candidates must be under forty (40) years old Candidates must at least hold a Master diploma Candidates must meet governmental language requirements (English). Candidates must receive the approval of their organization

Candidates must submit a Doctoral proposal A priority will be given to candidates who have already published papers in Scientific Journals (Vietnamese and international), lectured

conferences and participated in completed and published ministerial projects

4. Language requirements English Candidates must meet the proficiency requirements of the universities they are applying to If candidates are Teachers / Professors working in universities, institutes and colleges, they are entitled to get English courses with government support

5. Test procedure Candidates are selected by a Jury Commission affiliated to the Ministry of Education and Training The list of selected candidates is announced through the VIED website: http://www.vied.vn

6. Time constraints Selected candidates must get enrolled in the desired program within two years. Scholarship grants will be canceled if candidates cannot find their promoters / tutors / supervisors abroad after two years. PhD students are generally entitled government grants for three years. However, this duration can be adjusted upon university request. The maximum grant duration is four years.
