EVENTS History Week 2008 - Rock Solid at Waters Edge! A rich deposit of fossil fishes discovered in 1956 near Canowindra in Central NSW preserves dramatic evidence of a tragic event 360 million years ago when backboned animals began to invade land. Visit Canowindras Age Of Fishes Museum to see Rock Solid at the Waters Edge. Age of Fishes Museum, Gaskill Street, Canowindra 10am 4pm every day. Cost Adults $7.70, Family $19.50, Concession $5.50, Children under 12 $3.30. Group Bookings essential! Cowra Annual Show: The show is in its 129PPthPP year and there are lots of activities happening over the two days to entertain the whole family! Some of the events include, animal nursery, wood chopping, whip cracking, lots of rides, pet show, school spectacular, showgirl and all of the fun activities including a massive fireworks display! 2008 AMSAG Cowra Services Rally: This is a 2-day event that will be conducted on roads in the Pennsylvania Forest as well as 70km of gravel roads within the Cowra Shire. There will also be a Superspecial Stage at Woodstock Speedway. Spectator Instructions will be available closer to the day. Lachlan Valley Railway: Various trains will be running on both Saturday and Sunday from Cowra to Noonbinna and Koorawatha return. Patricia Hardman Exhibition: This Cowra Japanese exhibition will feature works by artist Patricia Garden Hardman including glass fusing and slumping 02 6341 2233 as well as Japanese inspired Mosaic Art. Patricia Hardman has twenty years experience in Leadlight & Stain Glass as well as designing windows and door panels. From here she progressed into the field of Glass Fusing and Slumping and has exhibited work right across Australia. In 2002 Patricia took a trip to Hong Kong and Japan. This exhibition includes images taken over the last five years, mostly in the Central West, along the highways, back roads and detours. Old familiar landmarks sometimes appear transformed when weather and light come together in certain ways. The works in this exhibition are partly a tribute to the way digital photography is able to handle peculiar conditions of light, and allows colour printing to be personal. said McInerney. WRAP Unwrapped: works inspired by the Wagga rug is a touring exhibition and showcase of contemporary quilts and three dimensional textile pieces. The M&D is delighted to be the first company to stage the new musical Swag. M&D President Lawrance Ryan said that it is a great honour and a great responsibility to be entrusted with the stage presentation of any new work. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the ability of local performers using new material, said Lawrance. He continued, Many of the issues raised in Swag such as depression, dementia and the trials and tribulations of rural life are as relevant today as they were in the 1930s when the musical is set. Swag features singing and non-singing roles for both men and women, with ages ranging from 10 to 70 years. Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival will be held from 24 28 September 2008. Be sure not to miss the Sumo wrestlers at this years Sakura Matsuri Festival. They are one of many high quality cultural performances on the day, including the Bethlehem Singers, Toyama & Nakamura Ryu Battodo Samurai Sword group, Kitanodai Gagaku Kai (traditional Japanese music), an authentic Tea Ceremony demonstration, and for the first time in Australia, the Hachiohji Geigiren Geishiya Group. There will also be plenty of fun for the kids, with hands on activities including Origami, Calligraphy, Ikebana, Bonsai, Kite making and flying, Jumping castles, Kids Corner including craft activities and games. Entry is just $20 per family, with all activities and demonstrations FREE for the day. Food and drinks will be available for purchase on the day, with Bento boxes, sushi and yakatori kebabs, plus more traditional Aussie fare including a steak & sausage sizzle.
