Chick-l-A Marketing Manager Brittany Klem said business for the Turnersburg Highway fast-food restaurant doubled during lunchtime Wednesday.
For several hours Wednesday, both the takeout and drive-thru lines at Chick-l-A of Statesville zigzagged through the parking lot as local residents said they were supporting the restaurant for standing up for their First Amendment rights. The combination of a vigilant community watch and a concentrated police patrol led to the arrest of a teen suspected of breaking into dozens of vehicles. Devin Emanuel Rankin, 18, of Statesville, now faces 15 counts of felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, six counts of larceny and nine counts of attempted larceny. He is in custody at the Iredell County Detention Center with an $8,000 bond. Statesville Police Chief Tom Anderson said ofcers from D Rankin Squad were deployed on foot in the Taras Trace community after a number of vehicle break-ins were reported last weekend. While ofcers were keeping their eyes open for any suspicious activity, so was a member of the Taras Trace community watch. Around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Anderson said, a neighbor called police and reported seeing a man trying to open vehicle doors and gave police a description of the suspect. Several ofcers were on the scene within seconds of the call and located a person tting the description given by the neighbor, Anderson said. That person was identied as Rankin. Anderson said the teen eventually showed ofcers different locations in the neighborhood that he had victimized.
Local nonprot Iredell Memorial Hospital was ranked among the top 100 Great Community Hospitals in 2012 in a recently released list by industry publication Beckers Hospital Review. The hospital was the only one of the three in Iredell County to make the list, which recognizes high-performing hospitals with fewer than 550 beds
and minimal teaching programs, according to a press release from Iredell Memorial. Other hospitals in North Carolina making the list included Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast in Concord, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton and Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. It is an honor to be recognized as
one of the top community hospitals in the nation, said Ed Rush, president and CEO of Iredell Health System. Community hospitals are a critical component to the healthcare continuum. Hospitals like Iredell Memorial are the anchors of health care and employment within their communities, providing patients with high-quality care close to home.
