ROMULUS A 9-yearold girl with juvenile diabetes and her motorcycleriding partners have set a fund-raising record. Ally Frederick, daughter of longtime Romulus residents Jerry and Suzanne Frederick, was joined by a small group of bikers in raising more than $3,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation during an Aug. 17 motorcycle trip known as the Midnight Ride. Bob McCraight, the citys building director, said Ally raised the money through pledges and donations by friends, area businesses and city employees. The bikers trip began in Rockford in suburban Grand Rapids and ended 230 miles later in St. Ignace with the riders chilled through and through, McCraight said. McCraight was accompanied on the trip by former Romulus resident Richard Hoth and Vaughn Noble, both of Boyne City; Leopoldo Garcia of Romulus; and Johnny Campbell of Southgate. ROCKWOOD A former police officer sworn to protect and serve is facing three charges related to alleged sex crimes. The Wayne County Prosecutors Office issued one charge each of second- and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct against Christian Zieminski, 33, as well as a charge of misconduct in office. Second-degree criminal sexual conduct is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison upon conviction and misconduct in office is punishable by up to five years DOWNRIVERS#1 CHEVY DEALER in prison. Fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct is a high misdemeanor and is punishable by up to two years in prison. According to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, it is alleged that Zieminski engaged in inappropriate sexual contact, using force or sexual coercion with a female prisoner who was in his custody at the time.
