Music News:
Mrs. Dorval is very excited to share music with all students from kindergarten to grade 7. Every class visits the music room at least twice a week. Students learn basic musical concepts such as beat & rhythm patterns, pitch matching, melodic reading and basic notation. Students learn these concepts through a variety of musical experiences including: singing, dancing & body percussion, playing a variety of musical instruments, music games, and creating patterns in music. Parents are always welcome to observe (and even participate!) with the music classes at any time. Our choirs will begin in the second week of school. Intermediate choir is an optional choir for all students from grade 4 to 7, who love to sing. We meet every Friday morning before lunch. Please encourage your son or daughter to come out and give it a try! Grade 2&3 choir gives all students in these grades the opportunity to experience singing together every Thursday morning before lunch. If there are any questions about the Coldstream music program or the choirs, please connect with Mrs. Dorval at school or via email: adorval@sd22.bc.ca. Ann Dorval, Music Teacher
BC School Fruit & Vegetable Nutritional Program We have brought this program back for our Coldstream Ann Dorval, Music Teacher Elementary students for the 2012-2013 school year. We require parent volunteers to help with this program. If you wish to volunteer your time and have a current Food Safe certificate, please contact Desiree Kuhnlein at 250-2605830
We encourage students to purchase their supplies from the school as we buy in bulk and are able to offer supplies at a lower cost. The Cultural Activity Fees offsets the cost of cultural performances throughout the 2012/13 school term. Families wishing to purchase their own school supplies may purchase the student agenda for $7.00 from the school.

Medical Awareness
MEDICATIONS We have had a number of situations where students have brought medication (Advil, Tylenol, medicated cough syrup, etc.) to school in their packsack. Please noteStudents must not bring medication, of any kind, to school. If a child requires medication at school, parents/guardians must fill out the Request for Medication at School form and have it signed by a doctor. The medicine would then be dropped off, by the parent, at the school office for proper storage. Thank you. STUDENT MEDICAL PLANS In order to ensure that we have the most current information regarding student medical needs we ask families to update their medical plans yearly. Those students who require medical plans will receive new forms later this week. If your child requires a plan, and has not had a plan in previous years, contact the school office. Please complete and return plans as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the school anytime.
Coldstream Newsletters
We are offering our monthly newsletter on our website. Families will be notified by email that our newsletter has been posted on our website: http://coldstream.sd22.bc.ca/coldstream/Newsletters.html Families who wish to receive a traditional newsletter are more than welcome to pick up a copy at the front entrance outside the office.
STUDENT INFORMATION SHEETS The demographic information sheets are being sent home this week via mail. Please check over the information, make any changes in red and return to the school office. Please note we communicate notices and updated information by email so it is important that we have a current email address. For those families who have a child with medical concerns and/or medication that needs to be administered at the school, forms will be included with the Student information sheets and need to be returned as soon as possible. Please return Student Information sheets no later than September 24rd.
Life Threatening Allergies Many children have allergies. A few, however, are life threatening. Some children, for example, are severely allergic to peanut products, including peanut butter. Nuts, shellfish, eggs, milk, and perfumes are also known to cause allergic reactions. If you are a parent of a child with life-threatening allergies, we need your support in providing the school with current medical information and assistance in developing a plan to protect your childs health. When the plan is in place, we will be asking for the cooperation of all parents and students in the school to help protect the allergic child from danger. Working together we can do our very best to help all students remain healthy and safe.

Parent Volunteers
Parent volunteers are essential to the success of a safe school community. We welcome and encourage parents/guardians to volunteer their time in as many different ways as possible. It is imperative that all parent volunteers, who volunteer on a regular basis, complete an RCMP criminal check form before volunteering in the school. Criminal checks do not have to be repeated annually. All costs are covered by School District #22. Criminal Record Check forms are available at the school office. Please drop by and pick one up.
