[edit] History [edit] Formation and early years Accenture originated as the consulting division of Arthur Andersen. Its origin g oes back to 1953, when GE asked Arthur Andersen to undertake a feasibility study about payroll processing and manufacturing automation using computers (GE had b ought the first U.S. business computer for the Appliance Park manufacturing park , in Louisville). Joseph Glickauf was Arthur Andersen's project leader for the G E engagement and was responsible for the payroll processing automation, launchin g the era of data processing. Considered to be the father of computer consulting , Glickauf headed the Arthur Andersen administrative services division for 12 ye ars. [edit] Splitting from Arthur Andersen In 1989, that division split from Arthur Andersen and began using the name Ander sen Consulting. Both Arthur Andersen and Andersen Consulting consisted of groups of locally owned independent partnerships and other entities around the world, each in a contractual agreement with Andersen Worldwide Socit Cooprative (AWSC), a Swiss administrative entity. Through the 1990s there was increasing tension between Andersen Consulting and A rthur Andersen. Andersen Consulting was upset that it was paying Arthur Andersen up to 15% of its profits each year (a condition of the 1989 split was that the more profitable unit - AA or AC - paid the other this sum), while at the same ti me Arthur Andersen was competing with Andersen Consulting through its own newly established business consulting service line. This dispute came to a head in 199 8 when Andersen Consulting claimed breach of contract against AWSC and Arthur An dersen. Andersen Consulting put the 15% transfer payment for that year and futur e years into escrow and issued a claim for breach of contract. In August 2000, a s a result of a conclusion of the International Chamber of Commerce, Andersen Co nsulting broke all contractual ties with AWSC and Arthur Andersen. As part of th e arbitration settlement, Andersen Consulting paid over the sum held in escrow ( then $1.2 billion) to Arthur Andersen, and was required to change its name, resu lting in the entity being renamed Accenture.

[edit] Emergence of Accenture On 2001-01-01, Andersen Consulting adopted its current name, "Accenture". The wo rd "Accenture" is derived from "Accent on the future". Although a marketing cons ultancy was tasked with finding a new name for the company, the name "Accenture" was chosen by an employee from the Oslo office, as a result of an internal comp etition. Accenture felt that the name should represent its will to be a global c onsulting leader and high performer, and also intended that the name should not be offensive in any country in which Accenture operates. The choice of name also means that the company appears closer towards the top of any alphabetised lists , and retains the AC letter sequence of its previous identity. [edit] IPO On 2001-07-19, Accenture offered initial public offering (IPO) at the price of $ 14.50 per share in New York Stock Exchange (NYSE); Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stan ley served as its lead underwriters. Accenture stock closed the day at $15.17, w ith the day's high at $15.25. On the first day of the IPO, Accenture raised near ly 1.7 billion dollars. [edit] Controversy and criticism [edit] Tax haven headquarters In October 2002, the Congressional General Accounting Office (GAO) identified Ac centure as one of four publicly-traded federal contractors that were incorporate d in a tax haven country. [1] The other three, unlike Accenture, were incorporat ed in the United States before they re-incorporated in a tax haven country, ther eby lowering their U.S. taxes. Still, critics have panned Accenture's incorporat ion in Bermuda, generally because they viewed Accenture as having been a U.S.-ba sed company trying to avoid U.S. taxes. The GAO itself did not characterize Acce nture as having been a U.S.-based company; it stated that "prior to incorporatin g in Bermuda, Accenture was operating as a series of related partnerships and co rporations under the control of its partners through the mechanism of contracts with a Swiss coordinating entity." [edit] Enron and the Accenture name There is a misconception that the Accenture name change was simply the consultin g firm's attempt to "hide" from the Enron scandal. This is not accurate given th e timing of events. The split from Arthur Andersen was requested by the consulti ng side in 1998, and finally rewarded in 2000; the Enron scandal (starting with the reporting of the infamous "LJM Partnerships") did not occur until well into 2001, with the scandal culminating in the months after that. In reality planning for a new name was underway before the arbitration decision was announced (Andersen Consulting partners felt that the word "Consulting" in t he name was a drawback, since the firm was moving into non-consulting work such as outsourcing and ventures). Interestingly, internal Arthur Andersen emails in 2001 sent to all employees discussed future plans for Arthur Andersen to move ah ead in the market with 3 names: Andersen Tax, Andersen Audit, and Andersen Consu lting now that they had ownership over the name. Arthur Andersen was never able to revive the "Andersen Consulting" name since it was brought down by the Enron scandal before doing so. Accenture is typically listed in the top 100 corporate brands [2], so the name change appears to have been a positive for the consultin g Firm. The fact that it is disassociated from the Arthur Andersen name certainl y proved to be a positive after the Arthur Andersen Enron scandal.

In a file A...Z characters are written.if we open the file using fopen and lseek(fp,-10,2); c=getc(fp); printf("%c",c); what will be the output.? Ans . Y.(please verify Here last parameter is the integer value to seel_end

Same question with lseek(fp,10,0); c=getc(fp); printf("%c",c); ans. 11th character will be printed "K" verify.

Theory question about far pointers. Hint: Far pointers are 4 bytes in size and local pointers are 2 bytes in size. i mportant: i saw in a previous question paper of accenture which is in the chetan a database, some lady wrote that size of an integer in C is 2 bytes and for C++ it is 4 bytes. This is absurd. The size of types is entirely dependent on the com piler used.for DOS Turbo C sizeof int is 2 and float is 4 bytes for windows borl and C,C++ size of int is 4 bytes for linux gcc, size of int is 2 bytes. All thes e depends on the Operating system. Please keep this in mind.

Now some questions about extern variables.

#include<stdio.h> main() { char str[]={"hell"}; int i; for(i=0;i<5;i++) printf("%c%c%c%c\n",str[i],i[str],*(str+i),*(i+str)); getch(); } ans. hhhh eeee llll llll note that str[i] and i[str] are the same.in the question paper, the original wo rd is "hello".

Which of the following is not defined in string.h strtod, memchr, strspn, strchr ans . strtod.(defined in STDLIB.H) it is used to convert a string to double.

Questions on macros with arguments .same pattern given in TEST UR C SKILLS eg.#define SQUARE(x) x*x main() { ....... y=SQUARE(2+3); printf("%d",y); } ans. when the macro expands we get 2+3*2+3 = 2+6+3 =11.11 is the correct answer not 25.

Remember an inline function does type checking and so it is better than a macro a question on this.
