KEEN QUESTIONS LONGS LEADERSHIP

Who represents District 16 in the State Senate?
FORT WAYNE- On Monday, State Senate candidate Tom Keen asked who represents the residents of the 16th District. Keen was alarmed to see a statement on incumbent David Longs campaign Facebook page, David Long is making a difference on issues that matter to Republicans. I accept he is a Republican. I accept he identifies with the goals expressed by the Republican Party. However, I cannot accept it is appropriate that he work specifically for issues that matter to Republicans said Keen. This is unfortunately a reflection of serving politics instead of public service. This is the negative approach which has handicaps our elected servants and prevents them from serving the best interests of all the people. This is a big reason I decided to run for elected office. Keen further commented, I am running against David Long and I am running as a candidate on the Democratic Party ticket. However, upon election to the Indiana State Senate for the 16th District I will serve ALL of the people of my district, not just those of my political party, not just those who vote for me, not just those who contribute to finance my campaign, not even just those who vote or are old enough to vote. Keen proudly served over 20 years in the United States Navy and knows the honor of serving. I knew service to my country came first, far above my personal viewpoint. As an Indiana State Senator I will speak up forcefully but will also listen intently and respectfully. I will not be so arrogant to believe I, or my political party, have the only good ideas. Our state is faced with many challenges and opportunities, said Keen. The people of this state and the people of Senate District 16 in Northeast Indiana need leaders seeking the best ideas. The best ideas can only be arrived at by respectful consideration all viewpoints. We need to return to service for the people over service for the party. I would welcome the opportunity to serve all the people as your State Senator. Tom Keen is a resident of Fort Wayne and is running against longtime incumbent David Long in Senate District 16. Tom and his wife Laura have been married for 22 years and have two college aged children. Tom is active in several veteran service organizations; he is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He is also a member of the Military Officers Association of America, United States Naval Institute, and the Fort Wayne Base Community Council. Tom currently serves on the Board of Directors of Fort Waynes Science Central.
