Drug and Substance Abuse Prevention And Control

Most drugs and other chemical substances are helpful when used properly. Alcohol, for example, may offer cardiac benefits when consumed in moderation, and can help promote relaxation and reduce anxiety. Unfortunately, the misuse of medications and drugsboth legal and illegal, as well as alcohol and tobaccois a growing problem in the older population. The terms drug abuse or substance abuse is defined as the use of chemical substances that lead to an increased risk of problems and an inability to control the use of the substance. Drugs are chemicals that change the way a person's body works. You've probably heard that drugs are bad for you, but what does that mean and why are they bad? If you've ever been sick and had to take medicine, you already know about one kind of drugs. Medicines are legal drugs, meaning doctors are allowed to prescribe them for patients, stores can sell them, and people are allowed to buy them. Drugs are commonly classified according to their legal status or their effects on the central nervous system. Based in our seminar last August 4, 2012, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency ( PDEA ) taught us more about the classification of drugs, the most abuse drugs and the contents of each and every drugs, like marijuana, shabu and inhalants. We also talked about the policy of law, which includes the anti-drug law. Upon listening all those thing, I realized that using drugs is very useful to all person who have sickness, but abusing of drugs is another matter of fact, it is not already good especially if majority of using this illegal drugs are teenagers. While using illegal drugs, people are also less able to do well in school, sports, and other activities. It's often harder to think clearly and make good decisions. People can do dumb or dangerous things that could hurt them. So, to prevent this kind of issue in our society there are laws that are implemented. Example, if any person who shall sell transport or do any similar acts, any CPECs or shall act as broker, will be go to jail for 12 to 20 years and a fine of P100 to P500 thousand. So, before doing anything, think first a million times if that thing is good for your health or even for your future. Being a student and as a teenager, it is very nice to hear about drugs and substance abuse prevention and control, it is also useful to us teenagers to know more about this, so that we will be aware in every actions that we made. For us Capitolians, it is a pleasure to meet Mrs. Juliet A. Caga-anan which is the information officer III of PDEA and Mr. PG2 Ernesto A. Ayudan, Sr. MSCrim, RC PDEA, who are the speaker of the said seminar. I salute them for having a perfect and atmospheric learning environment which made me comfortable during the sessions. Before I end this, I want to say No to drugs and live your life fully
