measures
By SHANNON CAULFIELD
The Marlton Sun
The Evesham Board of Educa-
tion approved a contract at the
Sept. 27 meeting for two market-
ing measures to assist in creating
revenue for the district.
Advantage3, a marketing com-
pany based in Milburn, NJ, will
be facilitating the program
through web and school bus ads.
The initial cost of the program
will be $8,000 for both the buses
and online presence. From there,
the district will collect 51 percent
revenue from the online ads and
61 percent from ads displayed on
the outside of the school buses.
Any money we spend, well get
back in revenue, said Dennis
Nettleton, the districts business
administrator.
The district has yet to predict
the exact amount of money that
would be accrued from the new
program.
Because its such a such a new
program, its the one thing we
dont know, said Nettleton. Its

Web ads wont be pop ups
the ground floor for the new con-
cept.
Medford school district recent-
ly began a similar search for
extra revenue stemming from a
marketing agency placing ads on
school-owned property.
According to Bryan McGair of
Advantage3, the timeline for rev-
enue from the program ranges
from 12 to 15 months.
Its a process. I can tell you
right now I work both ends of it
with school boards and potential
sponsors. I have been here for
three months, and Ive worked on
both sides of the process, said
McGair. I have been working on
the other side, with two potential
sponsors for districts. I have had
multiple conversations with the
sponsors over a period of three
months, which is why I say, its a
process.
The agency has no intention of
marketing any portion of its ads
toward children. No alcohol,
drugs, tobacco or soft drinks will
be marketed and displayed online
or on school property, according
to McGair.
We would not force any adver-
tisement the board would not per-
mit, McGair said. The board
has the right of refusal for any
contracts.
Additionally, the ads presented
in web format will never be pop-
ups, rather, the ads will be
scrolling ads simply displayed
on the schools webpage.
The program focuses on the
monetization of assets with im-
mediate response. Other school
districts have generated as much
as $250,000 in the most recent
quarter for Advantage3, accord-
ing to McGair.
The district will be paid twice a
year, once in January and again
in July.

QSAC is the monitoring process
the school has been going
through since 1991 to determine
the performance of the district.
The school needs to score at
least 80 percent in each category
to be considered a high perform-
ing district in the state, according
to Scavelli.
Unfortunately when we got
our placement level, we were a 79
percent. Overall, when you look
at score to score from 2008 to 2011
the scores were very much the
same in 2011 as they were in
2008, said Scavelli. Unfortunate-
ly when you score below an 80
percent the district must undergo
a district improvement plan ad-
dressing non-compliant indica-
tors.
The board would approve an
initial plan and send it to the state
for its input.
The school is still currently
working on the budget for the
2013-2014 upcoming school year,
according to Scavelli.
Its a nonstop process of what
we do every day, said Scavelli.
Were constantly evaluating, tak-
ing notes, it dictates all we do. It
really never ends.
Also, the contract for the solar
panels for the Evans and Van
Zant schools was approved.
The original contractors fell
through and halted the projects
progress. Over the summer,
South Jersey Energy and RAI
began the process again.
According to Nettleton, prepa-
ration of the contracts began the
first week of school.
If all goes well, it looks like we
can have solar panels on our
schools very, very soon. Im excit-
ed about saving money, said Net-
tleton.
The next board of education
meeting will be held on Oct. 25 at
7:30 p.m. at the Van Zant Elemen-
tary School located at 270 Con-
estoga Dr. in Marlton.

F
ewer young adults are living at
home. Why does that matter?
According to economists deci-
phering recently released Census data,
it means that the Great Recession
might be over. For real, this time.
The Associated Press talked to a
number of experts when the data came
out a couple of weeks ago. While none
were turning cartwheels over the state
of the economy, they pointed to a num-
ber of factors that indicate that things
are getting better.
We all know that, technically, the re-
cession ended a few years ago. Yet, we
all see that unemployment remains
high and the housing market has been
really slow to show dramatic improve-
ment.
The new Census data, though, high-
lights a few things that perhaps are
more meaningful when it comes to
measuring economic strength.
One of those factors is the number of
young adults living at home. When
that number goes down, as it did in
2011 to 13.6 percent from 14.2 percent,
its a good thing. The experts The AP
spoke to said the trend indicates more
younger adults are more confident
about finding a job or attending a col-
lege.
There was more good news, too.
More people were moving to new hous-
es and towns. Poverty is slowing, too.
Indeed, one look at the better than 8
percent unemployment rate snuffs any
thought of a red-hot economy. But, if
people are feeling better about the fu-
ture, and acting on those feelings by
getting back into the swing of things,
its not only a good sign, its a true
boost to the economy. They likely will
spend more, for example, which will
help to create jobs.
While Mom and Dad might have
mixed feelings about waving goodbye
to their adult children, they should
know that, according to the experts,
its a good sign. It means that, perhaps,
after years of stagnation and reces-
sion, better economic times are getting
closer.
in our opinion
Goodbye, Junior, hello, recovery
New census data indicates that the economy actually might be on the way up
So long
More parents are waving goodbye to
their adult children, who are leaving the
nest to head out on their own.
According to the experts, thats an indi-
cation that the Great Recession finally
might be over.

paid trip to Washington, D.C., March 2-6,
2013, to tour the city, meet our nations lead-
ers, be honored by the VFW and its Ladies
Auxiliary and receive their portion of the
national awards. Students compete by writ-
ing and recording a broadcast script on an
annual patriotic theme. This years theme
is, Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?

Extra donated costumes
will be given to Goodwill
ciaries via the initiative.
Participants do not need to be a
library cardholder to donate and
swap. Residents in the area are
encouraged to come to the event
with their children.
We just want to help the com-
munity and this is a good way to
reach everyone, said Haubrich.
Gently used and complete cos-
tumes will be accepted for the
event, according to McKiernan.
We wanted kids to get the full
experience of getting a costume
for free that they could potential-
ly buy, McKiernan said.
We had a lady last year who
came from Burlington Township,
which is a bit of a far drive, do-
nate some awesome, great cos-
tumes for the kids, Bowden said.
Bowden is in support of the
saving aspect, as the cost of cos-
tumes can become a burden with
various financial situations or
families with more than one
child.
Wal-Marts costumes may be
$14.88 each and if theyre Disney
costumes they can be up to $50.
The expense can get costly, Bow-
den said.
The costumes swapped dont
need to be used strictly for Hal-
loween, the library is encourag-
ing parents to bring their kids
who are in need of dress-up cos-
tumes.
Parents brought their kids in
for something to play with as
well. Costumes can get expen-
sive, said McKiernan.
No costume from the swap will
go to waste. All the donations
were sent up to the main branch
following Pinelands swap last
year and the remaining costumes
after the main branchs swap was
donated to a local church.
This year, all the branches will
be donating the excess costumes
to Goodwill.
