Support for voter restriction continues to plummet among likely Minnesota voters, highlighting momentum for Vote No campaign ST. PAUL (October 9, 2012) A new public poll released yesterday afternoon by Public Policy Polling (PPP) shows that support for Minnesotas Voter Restriction Amendment continues to plummet as Election Day draws closer. The poll, conducted between October 58, showed that only 51 percent of those polled supported the amendment, with 43 percent opposed. Six percent of those polled were undecided. The polling firm noted, This fight may end up a lot closer than people initially expected. These numbers indicate a continued dramatic shift in polls conducted by the highly-respected firm. In June, PPPs poll showed the amendment enjoyed a 24-point advantage, while their September 12 poll showed a 17-point margin. This means in just four weeks, Our Vote Our Future the coalition of 80 organizations that is the official statewide campaign to defeat the Voter Restriction Amendment has cut in half the margin by which the amendment leads. A Star Tribune poll released on September 23 showed that support for the amendment had dropped to 53 percent. Our Vote Our Future issued the following statement from Campaign Manager Luchelle Stevens: Each public poll released tells the story of this campaign. As Minnesotans begin to look under the hood of this poorly-written amendment, they are rapidly deciding to vote no. Momentum continues to swing in our favor and we are now within striking distance of defeating voter restriction and sending this costly and complicated measure back to the Legislature. The poll confirms, once again, that Minnesotans appreciate our nationally admired voting system and are hesitant to change it drastically. Theyre concerned about the amendments impacts on active military, senior citizens and Greater Minnesotans, among many others, and are reluctant to pay higher property taxes to fix a system that already works well. Last weekend, more than 700 grassroots volunteers joined Our Vote Our Future and its partners in reaching out to 75,000 voters across Minnesota. Stevens continued: These grassroots volunteers join local elections officials, mayors of Minnesota cities large and small and newspaper editorial boards all in opposition to voter restriction and all part of the growing momentum visible in all corners of our state.
