EW DELHI (Commodity Online): Indias commodity futures markets regulator,Forwards Markets Commission (FMC), may decide to lift the ban on guar complex sometimes in the month of August.

At a seminar on commodity markets organized by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), FMC Chairman Mr.Ramesh Abhishek said that the commission was waiting for the sowing of guar to be completed and take a call on the relaunch of futures.

In the month of March 2012, FMC banned all the contracts of guar seed and guar gum futures. Despite the move, spot prices of guar seed increased 5% and guar gum increased 10% at that time. In futures, the prices of guar seed had touched a high of Rs.30000 per quintal this year on the back of firm export demand, limited stocks and decline in production.

The guar complex has been on an upward surge since November 2011. Prices of guar seed futures have been rising continuously since November and had gained in excess of 500 per cent till March 2012.

Indias guar seed production in 2011-12 has been estimated at 12.1 lakh tonnes compared with a record crop of 15 lakh tonnes in the previous year. The country is a leading producer of this commodity, which is mainly used in the making of guar gum, a product used in industrial applications. , . 5180 5200
