Name: Ron Gardiner Lesson: Collaborative Writing: Halloween Introduction: This lesson will be used to connect students in social

media, to collaborate on a group project, and to bring that project to fruition. During this lesson, students will use Edmodo, Mixedink, and Wallwisher. Objectives: Students will learn the value of working collaboratively in a social media setting, how to peer edit, and synthesize elements of many contributors into a product representative of the entire class. Common Core Standards: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences. Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher led) with diverse partners on grade level topics and texts, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly. ISTE NETS for Students 2007: Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Relative Advantage: Students will learn the benefit of collaborating in social media space, while maintaining good digital citizenship. Timeline: Not more than 20 minutes per day during center rotations for two weeks Materials: Computers with Internet access. Edmodo, Mixedink, and Wellwisher account access Grouping strategies: After whole group introduction of lessons, students will work individually, collaborating digitally. Learning Activities:

Students will access Edmodo account, read assignment instructions and investigate library resources and links. Students will access Wallwisher, read and respond to posts as necessary. Each student will make at least one original post and respond to at least one other students post. Students will access Mixedink project and draft a narrative according to the instructions. Students will peer reviewed others work at Mixdink. Students will revise and edit their narrative at Mixedink, taking into consideration others comments and suggestions. Students will verbally and digitally discuses and decide on the narrative that best represents the class. Adaptations: Special needs students may take part I this lesson by using assistive technology (input devices, speech to text software, partnering with a peer or working with their assigned educational aide.
