outside of the box, pushing the dowel straight through the boxs interior until it touches the opposite side of the box. Make sure the dowel is level and then secure it with hot glue; let the glue harden. Step 8** Install the LED light in the lid. Working from the inside, gently guide the flame-shaped bulb through the hole in the lid until the housing comes to rest on the painted surface. Apply a few drops of hot glue around the edge of the plastic housing to secure the light; let the glue harden. Step 9 (optional) Decorate the handle. Cut two 18" (45.7 cm) lengths of cord and knot them around the handle where the dowel meets the box. Use a scant dab of hot glue to secure the knot. Step 10 Assemble the wand. Use your fingers to coil one end of each chenille stem. Switch on the LED light, following the manufacturers instructions. Set the lid on the box, aligning the small holes on the lid with the small holes on the box. Insert the straight ends of two metallic gold stems into each side hole to secure the lid to the box. Arrange the coils as desired.

Step 1 Stretch the springs. Pull the ends of each spring in opposite directions to make a piece 5" (12.7 cm) long. The stretched coils should remain separated, so that you can see through them. Step 2 Make the antennae. Insert a chenille stem into each stretched spring. Hold the spring and stem even at one end and clip the stem 1" (3.8 cm) beyond the spring at the other end. Nuzzle the coil end of each piece between the tufts of a pom-pom and secure with a dab of glue. Step 3 Attach the antennae to the headband.

Step 4 Wrap the headband with ribbon. Use melted glue to secure one end of the ribbon to the underside of one end of the headband. Wrap the ribbon around the headband, overlapping the previous wraps and going over and around the chenille stem wraps until the headband is concealed. Use melted glue to secure the ribbon to the underside of the headband at theother end and snip off the excess.

Monster with Wiggly Eyes: Halloween Headgear

Mark the midpoint of the headband. Measure and mark two points 1" (2.9 cm) from the midpoint in each direction. Wrap a chenille stem extension around the headband at each mark so that the springs and pom-poms stand up above the headband. Secure each one with a dab of glue.

A bit googly, but in good fun, adding a pair of wiggly eyes to the top of your head can be the beginning of an imaginative costume that is put together at the last minute, especially one that uses children-safe makeup to conjure chalky-faced skeletons, green-faced monsters, and the like.
