OBAMACARE

Government Gazette
! Everyone has heard of ObamaCare, but how many people actually know the facts? Because both our candidates have taken positions on universal healthcare, mainly against it, were giving you the facts on what ObamaCare really is. ObamaCare is a revamp of the Patient Protection and Aordable Care Act. The overall goal is to reform the health care industry and provide aordable health care to all U.S. citizens. ObamaCare is the largest middle class tax cut in history and will bring billions of dollars in tax relief. Under this law, regular American families can pay whatever they can aord for healthcare. ! ObamaCare also recongures private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid, but it does not replace them. The new laws cut over $700 billion of excess from these programs and channels them to other areas. ObamaCare aids businesses, too, by oering tax credits. All sounds good, right? Of course, not all people agree. Opponents argue ObamaCare will increase the decit by trillions, but advocates counter that without ObamaCare, millions of Americans will go without healthcare coverage. What does all this mean? There are some good things about ObamaCare, but there are plenty to bad things too. ! The biggest problem with ObamaCare is the cost. The legislation will raise healthcare costs and cost pharmaceutical companies over $80 billion over the next ten years. And, of course, taxes will rise. preexisting policies will have to change to meet the new standards, especially private and company sponsored policies. ! ! Now that you have the facts, you have to make your own opinions on ObamaCare and Universal Health Care. Do the benets outweigh the costs? That choice is up to you. ! By: Maggie Ostrum

POLL RESULTS: LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA

NOVEMBER 1, 2012

Yes Should it be legalized?

No

Should it be taxed? 0 18 21 30 60 90

Legal age to purchase 0 35 70

BREAKDOWN OF RESULTS ! We asked your opinions on the legalization of marijuana through a recent poll. The results were overwhelming to say the least! Approximately 52% of students and faculty in SLHS do not support the legalization of marijuana. This means that 48% of students and faculty in SLHS support the legalization of marijuana. The great thing about living in America is that citizens can form their own opinions on certain issues and they dont need to explain themselves to anyone. Candidates running for oce, on the other hand, need to explain why they support/oppose certain issues. ! The proper explanation of their views can inuence citizens to vote for them. The candidates share similar viewpoints. Omar Ikka supports the legalization of marijuana, but believes that there should be a tax on it. Ulysses S. Alderado supports the legalization of marijuana also, and he would like to see a heavy tax on it. The candidates will explain this viewpoint along with many others at the debate on Monday! ABORTION - ULYSSES S. ALDERADO ! ! The topic is abortion and not many of the candidates followers have been willing to answer some of the simplest questions. Ulysses S. Alderado has been very accommodating when asked the toughest questions regarding abortion. He has stated very clearly that he is pro life and has very republican views. On the other hand, Omar Ikka has been either hiding something about the topic, or they havent covered it yet. Coming from Rick Maris, from the Ikka campaign, Abortion isnt one of his main topics. Even with that said, we still havent gotten much information about Omar Ikkas views on abortion. We do know, however, Omar Ikka is pro choice. Hopefully within the next couple days, hell be able to dene for others where he stands and how they will go about trying to win the votes of the fellow student body. By: Adam Eral & Brady Mart

ABORTION - EDITORIAL

! This article will be on abortion and how important it is to be pro-life. An insider from 6th hour class informed me this time, they are denitely prolife! Obviously killing babies is wrong, if you arent at all choked up when you seen a beautiful new born baby, I dont understand, because you were that way once. You were born. The Democratic party makes a very valid point that life begins at conception. If you choose to abort that, then you must be willing to deal with the consequences. One out of three pregnancies are unplanned, worldwide. It is a great privilege to be able to conceive a baby and raise it. ! If it is illegal to kill someone, why is it okay for doctors who perform this task to be uncharged? Killing an embryo and fetus is literally, the exact same thing. Tell me Im wrong. The government does protect all hunan life, including those that are unfortunate in getting pregnant. So are other ways to

take care of the situation you are in besides just directly going and getting an Abortion. By: Joni Nelson
