POST A COMMENT

For the second time in 4 years, the Republican Party finds itself defeated by President Obama, on the strength of minority voters who overwhelmingly supported his re-election bid.
In their post-election assessment, establishment Republicans are left licking their wounds and are calling on the party to embrace a moderate platform that they hope will be seen as more inclusive of the changing demographics of the American electorate. This version Republican-Lite has already been dismissed as a token effort by the partys political opponents and is degrading and insulting to any minority looking for an alternative to the usual Democrat dogma. One major problem with the Republican Party is that its current leadership doesnt seem minority friendly. The leadership's interest seems to rooted in raising massive amounts of money to keep their position secure and not crafting a receptive message aimed at a diverse voting base. Another problem is that the party waits until convention time to highlight their minority elected officials. Even the few minority operatives that do appear in the media always seem to come off either as totally scripted or unconformable with the tasks at hand, which makes them easy picking for their political opponents and the media. Take Mayor Mia Love as an example. Why did the RNC wait until convention time to highlight her American story? Mayor Love should have been introduced to the voting public right after she won her Mayoral race more than two years ago. While the RNC did line up an impressive and impassioned group of minority speakers at the convention, the one night affair was dismissed by Democrats and the allied media as pure tokenism. The party leaders did not even try to defend themselves from that charge. How does a political party recruit more minorities, when it will not defend the ones within the party already? Rather than downplay the Tea Party as the establishment has tried to do for more than 2 years now, maybe they should follow our example about putting forth ideas that appeal to those thinking minorities. The Democrats and their allies would have to go to great lengths to pretend or ignore the fact that the movement was appealing to a new generation of minorities. The GOP establishment remain in a state of denial; they are looking for someone to blame for the fact that the Rove Strategy of massive amounts of money means massive numbers votes. But the establishment only has itself to blame for believing in such a flawed strategy, while alienating a whole host of other voters including minorities looking

Herman Cain was the Tea Party candidate, oh by the way, hes black. He was utterly eviscerated by the establishment, both sides of the aisle. After all it was Romneys turn, thats how the geldings at the RNC operate. If only they had attacked Barry like they attacked Herman Cain and others in the Republican primaries, what if?

Agreed. I supported Herman Cain, and I think that he would have won in the general election. With Cain we would have gotten all the business-sense of Romney without all the class warfare. Plus, he could have attacked Obama without being called a racist.

I agree. He was my man for a long timeand he was VERY dangerous to the Obama campaign (geeI wonder why). That's why he got trashed the way he did. Democrats can't have any actual black Americans showing the rest of the country that a) Republicans value ideas over race, b) the "black" president isn't quite the part of that community that he pretends to be, and c) black Americans can achieve whatever they want if they refuse to be victimized by white liberals. Like I saidHerman was their worst nightmare.

Ha Ha. You think Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican because you believe everything Breitbart tells you. MLK had a policy of never publicly endorsing either party, but when asked who he was going to vote for he replied, "In the past I always voted the Democratic ticket." http://books.google.ca/books?i...

I would support Cain in 2016 - and we need to aggressively go after the racist dems who accuse any black man who is not on the dem plantation of sexually assaulting women, like they did with Clarence Thomas, and like they did all through out the Jim Crow south. I would not vote for Jindahl, or Rubio, or Christie, or any other soft-sell conservative who isn't willing to make the arguments for what the proper roll of government is, or who isn't willing to put forth some kind of flat tax.

Rep. Bachmann was also a "Tea Party" candidate. Didn't she found the Tea Party Caucus? Ron Paul is arguably the G-dfather of the entire Tea Party movement. His constitutionally-centered brand of libertarian conservatism was resoundling rejected by the warfare/welfare GOP establishment that can't keep out of the piggybank and other nation's affairs any more than the Democrats can. Gingrich, Perry, and Santorum also all appealed to the Tea Party wing of the GOP and failed. What the Tea Party got suckered into doing instead of choosing one of the above-mentioned was to pick yet another RINO moderate with Romney. In doing so they showed how easy they were to co-opt by the Party establishment. The Tea Party movement did manage, with no small amount of help from people like Palin, to get a large number of Republicans elected to governorships. This is the only place where they've proven able to get their candidates elected, for the most part. As far as appealing to minorities, the GOP is in a tough situation. They can't out-Santa the democrats, and shouldn't want to, either. Too many democrats have been successfully fed the false narrative that the GOP is the party of slavery - which it isn't. The majority of people in the minority cultures are inclined to favor left-wing political thinking. If the GOP tries to look too much like the democrats they'll fail, too, because if there's nothing different to vote for why switch? Social Security, Food Stamps, EBT, Medicare, Medicaid, and now the so-called "Affordable Health Care Act" are all too enticing to make people want to abandon them. Even if America hasn't yet gone over the fiscal cliff I'm afraid we've already leaped over the cultural one and are hearing the Wylie E. Coyote whistle as we fall to the canyon floor below.

To me, the solution isn't to pander to different groups, it's to show how conservatism will benefit people of all races. Show that we respect all Americans & their ability to succeed based on merit- based on the abilities & gifts that we're blessed with. A story here a few weeks ago talked about how minorities in an inner city weren't seeing the improvement they'd been promised. Great! Let's go in & work with them to improve the poverty that they're living in. Don't just talk about helping people improve their lives, actually help them help themselves!

The Republican Party's Minority Problem

I've been reading story after story about how the GOP didn't appeal to this minority group or that minority group. Am I the only one more concerned that minorities don't seem to agree with the concept of independent thought, small government, free markets and not looking to the goverment for handouts? How do you change your message to conform to something appealing to that mentality?
A LIKE REPLY 10 hours ago 9 Likes F

MORGUE

You're correct, it's become part of the culture of most minority groups in America. This is especially true of the black community, which is now so wholly-owned by the Democrat Party, that they don't even complain when Democrat policies hurt them. For example, the Democrats chose the unions over black families when they cancelled school vouchers in DC. They chose illegal aliens over black workers when they turned their back on law enforcement, allowing jobs to go to illegal aliens that would otherwise go to low-skill poor blacks. So to recap, the Democrats ensure that blacks remain uneducated and unemployable ... but you get a free phone.

Currently 85% of the children in Chicago receive two meals a day from the Schools. 60% of those children, according to the White House Chef, get no other meal during the day. When these children grow up and have children, will they have an expectation that they are responsible for providing their children meals? The Social State at it's core is immoral.

CURDS

While I appreciate the sentiment, here's what you, like many others simply don't comprehend yet. It doesn't matter what conservatives say or do or the policies they support. Do you really think democrats will stop demonizing the "non democrat"??? If it's "insulting" to say there is a very large voting block of people who DEPEND on a government handout, then the only way to NOT "insult" is to lie. Sorry my friend, as a conservative I can't do that. We have a huge segment of the population who are very comfortable getting "free stuff". It's been going on for decades. We've spent TRILLIONS of dollars on "social programs" and the results are simply more citizens in poverty. Do you really think denying this is a destructive path will change it?? As a nation, we voted for economic ruin. The current president has a track record. Of course his explanation is "blame Bush". There's a good example for our children. The POTUS is teaching us, just blame someone else it's not your fault. You want to talk INSULTING????? For FOUR years our president has INSULTED half the country. They voted him BACK IN!!! The financial future of America has been ruined for two or three decades and our children CHEERED for it!! Here's the TRUTH. This was an election about "free stuff". We now have more people who will vote for "free stuff" than who are educated enough to comprehend it's UNSUSTAINABLE. If you think "fair share" and "you didn't build that" and "we need to pass the bill to find out what's in it" are "less insulting", nothing else really matters. We're DONE as a great nation. If you're more concerned about having your feelings hurt than knowing the TRUTH, it doesn't really matter. When you seek to be "insulted" you'll be insulted no MATTER what words are used. That's what's led to the demise of a once great nation, TOO many people worried about "feelings" and not enough intelligence to DO WHAT"S RIGHT!

The democrat's entire political engine is nothing more than a giant buy the vote scheme. Give out free stuff, get more votes, get in power, raise taxes to give out more free stuff, to get more votes - they stay in power. But just in case, use some of that money to create as much election fraud as possible. Look at all the unions going on strike right after the election - where's my payout?

Which is the major Achilles Heel of Identity Politics. If socially-acceptable-to criticize-ethnic group A thinks a certain way, we can discuss it, criticize the majority of said groups thinking, and focus on how to appeal to said group. But if socially-unacceptable-to-criticize ethnic group B happens to think a certain way in a solid majority, it is insulting to point out the reality of said thinking and therefore we are barred from focusing in the same way. I agree with the sentiment of treating everyone as simply Americans with conservatism. However, there is a non-dismissible cultural element within communities that must be considered sometimes in order to share that message effectively, and subcultures many times are defined by ethnicity because of similar origin and family stories.

The GOP thinks they can win on ethical principles and low taxes? Survival trumps ethics and poor people don't pay taxes. As long as minorities continue to be held back economically, whether that is by accident or design, they will continue to vote for the party that gives them free stuff. The solution to bringing them around to conservatism isn't pandering, but creating an economic environment in which all prosper and wean themselves off of government dependency. Some would argue that we cannot achieve that without first winning elections, but if winning means putting status-quo moderates and RINOs in office we really gain nothing. It really is time that conservatives and libertarians unite to either take control of the Republican party or create a viable new party that can defeat both the establishment parties (no easy task).

Personally, I don't think Romney even tried to teach conservatism. After the convention he went all out to be a fiscal moderate. Instead of using the debt clock as a backdrop and explaining that we needed to make some drastic cuts in the size of government, he promised he wouldn't take away the programs people wanted. Every time the left asked about an entitlement program, he'd dance around the question. We need a leader who will give us real answers, despite the negative consequences. Sure, Mitt pitched the self-reliant meme. But he never backed it up with the idea that we were going to have to do without some government programs because the poke is empty. He simply promised that we could have these goodies because he was going to get the economy moving again.

Many good points are made here but we have to figure out a way to get out whatever message we have, to minorities or any other group, when the narrative is controlled by the MSM. We had minorities speaking at our convention and the MSM channels decided that this was the precise time to have the talking heads making their commentary - those of us who watched on FoxNews saw them but the alphabet network watchers, if the convention was even being televised at that time, didn't. The Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan, used the "bully pulpit" to talk directly to the people but by the time his term was ending the broadcast networks had figured it out and refused to televise his addresses to the nation. Unless there is some way, other than the limited access we do have, to get our message out to the masses, we will always have an uphill battle. In fact it is a wonder we do as well as we have, considering the deck stacked against us.

What was the percent of blacks that voted for Obama? 93%. Hispanics were 71%. I find that very racist against whites. Your argument works both ways. Everyone is out to vilify the white man. Makes me sad to have two white boys. They don't stand a chance. Maybe it's time to dig deeper and come up with a better argument than racism. It's getting old. This is about a lot more than racism. It's about medical, unemployment, unions, food stamps, taxes, and maybe most importantly the person they identify with when they don't know or understand the issues. And that works both ways. Welfare states on both sides of the Atlantic have discovered that largesse to losers does not reduce their hostility to society, but only increases it. Far from producing gratitude, generosity is seen as an admission of guilt, and the reparations as inadequate compensation for injustices leading to worsening behavior by the recipients." Make no mistake, poverty is an industry in this country, millions of people on both sides have been trapped for generations now.

The Republican Party's Minority Problem

CURDS

Salient article on how the "republican" party is dead. Toast. Done. Herman Cain, Mia Love, Deneen Borelli, Michelle Malkin etc etc etc, these are the folks who need to be the voices of conservatism. Carry the banner. I do know this, I won't vote republican or democrat ever again.

It comes from thinking that it's just an image problem. And it is a bad image when you get to the Republican convention and there are more people of color on the stage than in the stands. But it's mostly about policy and respect. Or more to the point, disrespect.

First, thanks for taking the d*ck you were sucking on out of your mouth long enough to respond. But let's face it, we've established that you are a psychotic with self-loathing that your project on to the white race, because the rest of us are normal, successful and not mentally disturbed like yourself. No one here respects your insane opinion, just exit and go back to Huffington Post and the gay porn sites you normally frequent.

They might get some repsect but for their voting habits. Sorry, I cant repect anyone who voted for Obama twice. Not even if they were family. Pretty soon, this country will be just like the one they risked their lives to leave.

I got an idea for the Republicans with blacks. Start having town hall meetings on a regular basis (throw in college campuses at the same time) in Democrat cities with large minority populations that haven't elected a Republican for years (like Minneapolis, Philidelphia and Detroit) and point out the democrats have been in charge for years and have things gotten better in your cities? All you have to do is pick up just 10-15% of the black and that dramatically changes a lot of so called safe democrat states let alone senate seats. Walter Hanson

Going to those cities with a republican message will only get you hurt. They don't want to have anything to do with common sense or family values.

Nobody gets it. The Republican party could give every cent that it owns to minorities-and they would still be vilified by the education/media/entertainment cabal. Marxism is solely what's desired by them, and only those who support absolute marxism will win in their arena. And it will stay the same-as long as conservatives try to operate as bit players within that corrupted, contaminated, and cynical world. Those rabidly biased people who control what we think, what we know, and who and what we should admire, disdain or laugh at will NEVER give dissenters a 'fair' shake. It's a childish, naive fantasy. Now is past time to really start thinking and operating outside of their marxist-controlled and saturated stinkbox. Let's beat them at their own game...go on the offensive-instead of living our battered lives on the ropes and in the corner! Insult, gore and embarrass their bankrupt ideology and its foolish adherents until they become the objects of rank derision that they should be. Make them UN-chic, UN-hip and UN-cool!

Speaking of building Minority Support for a candidate....I read today that the Fed. Gov. is advertising toward Immigrants to get them hooked up with Welfare, Food Stamps, Section 8 housing, Medicaid, Medicare, and all the numerous other Give away "programs" to "help new immigrants" as they come here for whatever reason. That's HOW Obama received the Minority Votes (many of which were ILLEGALS!) And the wicked thing about that is...HE and the DemocRATS just made sign up for these Freebies easier, offering HELP with the sign up...AND....Just let the TAX PAYERS foot the bills, even for the socalled O-Fones, which his voters thought HE gave them!
