THE TANK FARM

The Brass Terminal receives wet Crude Oil from all the flow stations from the Swamp Area and Land Area (via Ebocha Oil Center). At the arrival manifold in Brass Terminal the 2 lines mingle into a single line which is dosed with some demulsifier (chimec 2139XX) and flows into the Gun Barrel. The Gun Barrel is a continuous separation unit, which separates the water and oil to a certain degree, using the residence time. Presently it produces an average wet oil of about 130,000 gross barrels per day and water production of about 80,000 per day. The produced wet crude oil from the Gun Barrel (fixed roof tank) is channeled into either of the Production tanks 1, 2,3,4,5 and 6. A tank is filled at a time. When a tank is filled up, the flow or production is channeled into any available and usable empty tank for the next production. The filled tank is allowed to settle for a minimum of 8hrs based on the Department of Petroleum Resources standard before it can be drained. It is expected that within this 8 hours enough separation would have taken place. The water cut is then taken to determine the height of water column already separated from the oil, which gives an indication of the extent of draining. There is the first and second stage draining process. The first stage draining is channeled to the API. In the process the free and clear water is drained out. As the water cut is being approached i.e. the oil water interface is being approached, the second stage draining process is channeled to the dehydration unit, in which the water is removed and pumped to the API and the skimmed crude oil is transferred into tank 19 which is a sludge tank for settling. After settling for some hours, the entrapped water is drained back to the dehydration unit and pumped to the API, while the Oil is now recovered into the tank on Production After the tank has been completely drained, the dry crude oil can now be transferred into storage tanks 7, 8 and 18. This is done in order to create production space, and the operation carried out based on DPRs permission. When tanks 7, 8 and 18 are filled up, the dry crude in any of the production tanks can be left there until there is space for storage or it can also be loaded from there to the tanker. The water from the Gun Barrel is dosed with some water clarifier, which allows the entrapped oil to come out of the mixture and is pumped to the new API unit, in which the little oil that escapes with the water is skimmed off, recovered into the oil chamber pit and pumped to the Dehydration Unit. The water from the new API then goes to the old API. At the old API, the entrapped oil undergoes sedimentation, coagulation and flocculation and forms a film on the surface of the water. This is also recovered into the old API oil chamber pit and pumped to the dehydration unit. The free and clear water is then pumped to the canal. The effluent water to the canal is continuously monitored by Laboratory analysis which is done every 2 hours.

SOURCES OF POWER TO THE OPERATION OF THE TERMINAL

The Brass Terminal generates its power. Some of the equipment works on gas, while some on diesel, some could work on either gas or diesel. The gas used is from Obama flow station and the diesel supplied is stored in tanks 10, 11, and 12 and linked to the Generators and Turbines. Below is the specification of the Generators and Gas Turbines. TYPE Solar Turbine Solar Turbine Cat. Generator Cat. Generator Emergency Cat. Generator NO TG4 TG5 TG2 TG3 Emerg. Gen.
