SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
Goal setting, whether large or small, is very important at every stage of our life. It helps give us purpose and leaves us with a sense of satisfaction at the end of the day. You might recognize Elyas Isaacs who recently joined the Moriah family. Elyas is also a member of the Achilles Track Club, an international sports and support organization of disabled people worldwide. This past November 4th, she had planned to power walk the 26.2 miles of the ING NYC Marathon on behalf of the rights of senior citizens to live strong, independent, active, full, and happy lives. Even though the marathon was cancelled, Elyas walked the course on her own. She wants everyone to recognize that seniors have the ability to pursue and achieve whatever goals they set for themselves.

Another essential quality to take us into our golden years, which goes hand in hand with goal setting, is fearlessness. Dont be afraid to try new things! Dont let any normal limitations of senior-hood keep you from putting yourself out there. Dance like nobody is watching! Those of you who know Daniel Bavolack well, certainly know that he is, if nothing else, fearless, and that he joyfully dances through life. Daniel knows that creativity doesnt stop at 60 and keeps himself to a dynamic schedule that would exhaust even the busiest teenager. His interests and activities include, but are not limited to: The Upper Northwestern Manhattan Stroke Club New York Presbyterian Health Outreach Live Programs by the Center for Traditional Music and Dance Russian Chamber Chorus Various Other Music Programs

If you ever want to know whats new and interesting for seniors, just stop by the middle table at lunch time and ask him!

DONT LET AGING MAKE YOU AGED!

Join us on Monday, December 10th at 2 pm, as we discuss Cheryl Jarvis intriguing real-life account entitled, The Necklace. The true story of thirteen women who took a risk on an expensive diamond necklace and, in the process, changed not only themselves but a community. Four years ago, Jonell McLain saw a diamond necklace in a local jewelry store display window. The necklace aroused desire first, then a provocative question: Why are personal luxuries so plentiful, yet accessible to so few? What if we shared what we desired? Several weeks, dozens of phone calls, and a leap of faith later, Jonell bought the necklace with twelve other women, with the goal of sharing it.

Original, resonant, and beautifully told, this book is an inspiring story about a necklace that became greater than the sum of its links, and about thirteen ordinary women who understood the power of possibility, who touched the lives of a community, and who together created one extraordinary experience.

Register in the office and receive a library copy for advance reading. See what everybody has been reading and share in the discussion!

Get Out of the Car!

An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her lungs, I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car! The four men didnt wait for a second threat. They got out and ran like mad. The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the drivers seat. She was so shaken that should could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then she realized why. It was for the same reason she had wondered why there was a football, a Frisbee and two 12 packs of beer in the front seat. A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake. The sergeant to whom she told the story couldnt stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a carjacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun. No charges were filed. Moral of the story? If youre going to have a senior moment..make it memorable.
